Job Number: 2026-12 Department: Location: Job Type: Full Time Close Date: 05/24/2026 Professional Areas: The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions, working on everything from dinosaur skins to mine remediation and from cancer treatments to cutting-edge electronics. CLSI is now accepting applications for an Electrical Engineer‑in‑Training. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Lead, the Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) will support the technical design, implementation, and maintenance of systems for the CLS facility under the supervision of a professional Engineer. Responsibilities - Contribute to electrical designs (process and instrumentation diagrams, single line diagrams, detailed schematics, PLC logic and code, panel schedules, and installation plans) to support the design and development of accelerators, beamlines, and facility services. - Prepare work plans, schedules, and cost estimates for assigned tasks and ensure timely completion. - Prepare reports and specifications, ensuring designs conform to organizational standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices. - Prepare written documentation such as specifications, procedures, reports, drawings and other technical documentation. - Assist Professional Engineers by carrying out technical tasks that involve obtaining and analyzing data, completing calculations, preparing straightforward schematic designs or modifications, and determining the intent of a specification or instruction. - Meet with internal clients to assess their needs and special requirements and develop design concepts and proposals of limited scope and complexity. Qualifications - University degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. - 0-4 years of relevant work experience—new graduates are welcome to apply. - Eligible for professional membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). Compensation Starting salary range for Engineers‑in‑Training is $70,000–$75,000.
