Caretaker - Recurring Relief, Residence Summary: Reporting directly to the Custodial Supervisor, this front-line role plays a key part in delivering excellent customer service within a dynamic residential environment. The Caretaker interacts regularly with students and Residence Team members, often in a setting with shifting priorities, frequent interruptions, and tight deadlines. The ideal candidate is self-driven, proactive, and capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively. This position requires maintaining high cleaning standards while performing physically demanding tasks and handling cleaning agents and solvents safely. Duties and Responsibilities: - Clean and sanitize washrooms, including all fixtures and surfaces - Maintain cleanliness in common areas, student rooms, and apartments - Clean garbage rooms and household appliances such as stoves and refrigerators - Perform floor care using dry/wet mops, brooms, vacuums, shampooers, auto scrubbers, and floor finishing equipment (stripping, waxing, polishing) - Replace light bulbs as needed throughout the facility - Maintain and clean custodial equipment to ensure proper functioning - Wash walls, windows, and other surfaces as required - Set up conference rooms for meetings and events - Shovel snow up to six feet from building entrances to maintain safe access - Coordinate with Protective Services to assist with student lockouts - Move Loraas garbage tanks to designated pickup locations - Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor - Accountable to the Consumer Services Team Charter and is aligned with the purpose, vision, and values, and holds themselves and each other accountable to it Education: - Grade 12 diploma. - WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) certification is considered an asset Experience: - Minimum of one year of caretaking and/or cleaning experience in an institutional setting - Experience working safely with cleaning chemicals, power cleaning equipment, and floor waxing systems is an asset Skills: - Proven customer service skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team - Must be able to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment Department: Residence Status: Recurring Relief Employment Group: CUPE 1975 Shift: Hours of work are variable and indefinite. Flexibility in hours is available, however, ideally we are looking for applicants who could be available for full shifts as required. A full shift is Monday to Friday 8am – 4:30pm, with occasional evenings and weekends. Please provide your availability in your cover letter. Full Time Equivalent (FTE): Recurring Relief Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $16.75 - 20.43 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
