Job Summary The Program Therapist participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, therapeutic, social, cultural, cognitive, spiritual, and leisure programs that support the overall well-being of residents. Responsibilities may include facilitating group and individual programming, supporting special events and outings, documenting resident participation and responses, assisting with volunteer support, and ensuring programs align with resident interests, abilities, and care plans. This role reports to the Programs Manager. This is a casual position. Shifts will be scheduled based on operational needs (program requirements and staffing needs of the Home). The successful candidate must be available to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required - with primary availability to work 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM shifts. Responsibilities - Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational policies, legislative requirements, and professional standards, including participation records, assessments, care plan updates, progress notes, program evaluations, and required resident documentation related to recreation and therapeutic programming. - Support the assessment of residents’ interests, strengths, abilities, and needs to assist in the development and delivery of individualized and group-based recreational and therapeutic programs. - Organize, coordinate, and facilitate meaningful programs, activities, events, and outings that promote resident engagement, independence, social interaction, and overall quality of life. - Modify and adapt programs and activities to ensure they remain inclusive, safe, appropriate, and responsive to residents’ changing needs and preferences. - Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, residents, families, volunteers, students, and community partners to enhance resident programming and support resident-centred care. - Assist in maintaining recreational supplies, equipment, activity spaces, calendars, bulletin boards, communication materials, and program resources in a secure, organized, and accessible manner. - Participate in care conferences, team meetings, education sessions, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental discussions as required. - Promote positive and respectful relationships with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and external community organizations. - Support the coordination of special events, seasonal celebrations, intergenerational initiatives, and community engagement opportunities within the Home. - Contribute to quality improvement activities, program evaluation processes, and organizational initiatives aimed at enhancing resident experience and outcomes. - Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position and consistent with operational requirements of the Home. Requirements - A post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, or another related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution; - Equivalent education obtained from another jurisdiction; or - In the reasonable opinion of the Home, possess the appropriate combination of skills, knowledge, and experience related to recreational and social programming to successfully perform the duties of the position in accordance with applicable legislation. - Previous experience working with older adults, preferably within a long-term care, retirement, healthcare, or community-based recreational setting considered an asset. - Experience supporting, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating recreational, therapeutic, or social programs is preferred. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. - Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and organizational skills. - Basic to intermediate computer proficiency, including experience with documentation systems, email, and Microsoft Office applications. - Knowledge of interRAI-MDS, care planning processes, and resident documentation practices considered an asset. - Ability to adapt programming to meet the diverse physical, cognitive, emotional, cultural, and social needs of residents. - Current immunization and tuberculosis screening status in accordance with applicable legislation and organizational policies. - Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check completed within six (6) months prior to employment.
