Description
Objective To support Canplex Profiles Inc. in delivering exceptional custom plastic profile extrusion solutions by coordinating and supporting the development of new products, tooling, and manufacturing processes. This role focuses on: · tooling design and development, · project coordination, · customer development support, · cross-functional communication, · and maintaining organized development workflow in a fast-moving manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will work closely with sales, production, tooling, and development teams to help ensure projects move forward efficiently while protecting customer expectations, development timing, and operational priorities. Responsible To Sales & Marketing Manager Role Overview The New Product Development Coordinator acts as a key technical and operational support resource within the development process. This role requires someone who can: · technically support tooling and product development, · coordinate multiple development projects simultaneously, · communicate effectively across departments, · remain organized under changing priorities, · and help create practical solutions that keep projects moving forward. This role is not currently focused on direct personnel leadership. The immediate priority is supporting: · tooling development, · product development coordination, · technical advisory support, · and customer development activity. Future leadership opportunities may exist as the role evolves. Expected Results · Coordinate and support development projects from concept through production. · Support tooling design, modifications, and troubleshooting. · Maintain organized and accurate project flow throughout development. · Protect customer expectations through strong communication and follow-through. · Collaborate effectively with production, tooling, sales, and technical personnel. · Balance quality, timing, practicality, and operational realities to maintain development momentum. · Continuously improve understanding of extrusion processes, tooling performance, and manufacturing capability. General Responsibilities · Perform tooling and related design work for new profiles, tooling modifications, and internal projects using CAD/CAM software. · Prepare and maintain BOMs, drawings, development records, and supporting documentation. · Coordinate development activities between sales, tooling, production, and technical support. · Assist in troubleshooting tooling and development-related production challenges. · Support customer development activities through technical discussions, project communication, and sample coordination. · Collaborate with production and scheduling personnel to support development timing and capacity planning. · Participate in customer meetings where technical support or development coordination is required. · Maintain organized tracking of active development projects and priorities. · Work closely with tooling personnel to support efficient tooling development and modifications. · Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling, manufacturing, and development processes. · Assist in sourcing tooling-related materials and supplies as required. · Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. · Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the VP of Sales or the Sales Team. Qualifications, Skills & Training Requirements · OSSD Diploma (Grade 12) · College diploma, engineering degree, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Design, or related discipline · Strong understanding of tooling design and manufacturing processes · Experience working in manufacturing, tooling, machining, or production environments · Experience with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar platforms · Understanding of CNC machining, wire EDM, manual machining, and toolroom operations · Strong organizational and project coordination skills · Ability to communicate effectively with production, tooling, sales, and customers · Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability · Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment · Computer proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) · WHMIS · Valid Ontario driver’s license with clean abstract · Valid passport or border documentation permitting travel to and from the United States if required Preferred Experience · Plastic profile extrusion experience · Tooling development experience · Custom manufacturing experience · Customer-facing technical support experience · Experience coordinating multiple development projects simultaneously Personal Characteristics The successful candidate will demonstrate: · Integrity and accountability · Robust organization and attention to detail · Adaptability and flexibility · Low ego and collaborative mindset · Accountability and ownership · Calmness under pressure · Practical problem-solving ability · Strong communication and follow-through · Self-starter mentality · Willingness to learn and continuously improve · Service-oriented mindset focused on helping customers and teammates succeed · Collaborative problem-solving mindset · Ability to adapt and remain effective in a dynamic workplace Ongoing Training Requirements · Training in Canplex Profiles’ processes and systems · ERP system training · BOM, quoting, and purchasing process training · Extrusion process and tooling training · Additional upgrade courses as required Health & Safety Responsibilities · Follow all health and safety procedures and policies. · Report all safety hazards immediately. · Assist the JHSC Committee as required. · Inform management promptly of health and safety concerns requiring support. · Recognize the recommendation that heavy lifts are performed as team lifts where appropriate. · Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers.
