About us Tata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC) with its headquarters at 1000, Sherbrooke W., Suite 1120, Montreal (Quebec), operates iron ore mines in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec. The opportunity Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long. Standard work schedules are of 12 hours per day. The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake, Happy Valley-Goose Bay in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC. Major Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager - Projects, the incumbent will: - Worked in medium voltage and low voltage environment with background in Industrial Power System Design. - Able to perform Basic Engineering and Calculations for sizing the cables, panels and other system components. - Provide troubleshooting support to improve operational efficiencies. - Lead the implementation of cutting-edge processes and safety practices. - Prepare tendering competitions, evaluate technical aspects of bids, supervise contractors, negotiate variations and remedial works, assure and control quality, measure work done, approve and accept works. - Lead or work on a team to ensure projects are completed to time and budget, and to high quality standards - Write reports, attend meetings, exchange information with other professionals, record and store information in compliance with legislation, regulations and company policies - Play a leading role in ensuring safety, improving operational efficiency and quality, controlling production costs and protection of the setting at all stages of a mine life cycle - Work cooperatively with other departments, project managers, supply chain and mine management to optimize production, reduce costs, solve problems and meet deadlines In order to fulfill these responsibilities, you will be expected to manage and handle the following working conditions; A fast-paced environment, extreme weather conditions, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling. It is to note that you will also be working at heights. Your Profile - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited college or university. - 3+ years of industrial experience. - Must be eligible for registration with Professional Engineers & Geoscientists Newfoundland & Labrador. - Solid experience in engineering design, ideally in mining industry. - Experience working with low and high voltage and PLC automation. - Experience working with motor controls, power distribution and instrumentation and control systems including Mitsubishi, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider. - Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code. - Knowledge of routing electric power, controlling its quality, and controlling the devices attached to a power system. - Awareness of industry safety systems, legislation codes and contractual documentation. - Strong technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills. - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. - Proficient in the use of Microsoft Power Point and Excel. - Able to work on site on a Fly-in/Fly-out schedule.
