1.0 Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA) Student Services Full time PERMANENT Student Services (SS) Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA) at Waterford Valley High, St. John's. Duties to commence September 2, 2025. Location: Waterford Valley High, 465 Topsail Road, St. John's, NL, A1E 0E3. Reporting to the Service Delivery Team, the TLA will work with the team in supporting teaching and learning in an inclusive setting in the areas of planning, instruction, social emotional learning, assessment, evaluation, and collection of student data. As a Teaching and Learning Assistant, your work will focus on your application of the 7 Determinants of the School Development Model. These determinants are: Wellness and Positive Relationships; Optimal Learning Environments; Instructional Practice; Assessment Practices; Collective Efficacy; Evidence-based Decision Making; and Teachers as Learners. Required Duties, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Assist the Service Delivery Team in implementing programs and services for students, including the delivery of instructional supports. Have an understanding of child and youth development. Assist students with executive functioning skills and coregulation. Observe individual student progress and behavior, under the direction of the Service Delivery Team. Work collaboratively in maintaining a safe, secure and supportive environment for both students and staff through the application of de-escalation strategies and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Encourage students to develop independent skills, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Promote student participation in classroom activities, non-instructional time activities, field trips, etc. Participate as a member of school teams in meeting the needs of students. Maintain effective qualified working relationships. Commitment to ongoing professional learning with a willingness to enhance skills and knowledge through professional learning. Highly effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to assist students with alternate format materials and the operation of specialized assistive technologies. Minimum Qualifications: Teacher's Certificate Level Two (II) from Teacher Certification - Department of Education. Approved programs for Certificate Level Two (II) may include: ECE Level 2, Child & Youth Care Worker, Child & Youth Care Worker with Addictions Support, Disability Services & Support, Diploma in Social Services, or 20 university courses (60 credit hours).
