Project Manager / Electrical Engineer (Southeast Edmonton)
Description
About EVlution Charge Inc. EVlution Charge Inc. is a Western Canadian leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure. We design, deploy, and manage Level 2 and DC fast charging solutions for municipalities, fleets, commercial clients, and utilities, and we are increasingly delivering integrated projects that combine EV charging with Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As a small, fast-growing company, we are looking for a hands-on professional who is comfortable wearing two hats: an electrical engineer who is also a capable project manager. The successful candidate will move fluidly between engineering deliverables and project management duties as the day demands. About the Role This is a hybrid role that splits time between electrical engineering and project management. Because we are a small company, the successful candidate must be comfortable switching between the two on a daily basis — drafting electrical designs and site plans one moment, then driving permits forward, coordinating contractors, or closing out project management deliverables the next. Based out of our Edmonton office, the role covers site electrical design (single-line diagrams, load calculations, electrical skids), site planning, permitting, survey coordination, and landscape planning, alongside full ownership of project schedules, budgets, procurement, and client communication. The successful candidate must be willing to travel to project sites to assess existing conditions and capture the information needed to draft accurate site plans, and when needed, must be willing to help with all other business needs, such as accepting occasional shipments. Key Responsibilities Electrical Engineering - Lead site electrical design, including single-line diagrams, load calculations, electrical skid design, and site layout drawings. - Draft electrical and site plan drawings in-house, and review drawings prepared by external engineering partners. Stamping drawings in-house is an asset but not required, as we also work with external engineers of record. - Conduct field site visits to assess existing conditions, gather measurements, and capture the information needed to produce accurate site plans. - Convert site plans and field data into 3D CAD drawings. - Identify and resolve design gaps or inconsistencies before construction mobilization. - Ensure all designs comply with the Canadian Electrical Code, as well as the applicable provincial and municipal requirements in Alberta and British Columbia, where our projects are located. Project Management and Operations - Oversee the successful delivery of EV charging, Solar PV, and BESS projects from concept through commissioning. - Manage the internal team and coordinate daily workflows across clients, internal and external engineering, installation crews, contractors, and suppliers. - Own end-to-end procurement of equipment and materials, including vendor selection, purchase orders, and lead-time tracking. - Operate a forklift to receive incoming shipments at the Edmonton office and support general warehouse activity. - Own the permitting process end-to-end, including development, building, electrical, and utility permits, along with survey plans, landscape planning, and First Call notifications. - Liaise with utilities (e.g., EPCOR, Fortis, BC Hydro) on service upgrades and transformer installations. - Serve as the primary point of contact for B2B, municipal, and fleet clients throughout the project lifecycle. - Perform risk assessments, manage timelines and budgets, and prepare contingency plans for unforeseen issues. - Report on project milestones, financial performance, and lessons learned. - Design, implement, and maintain EVlution’s project management system, working with leadership to align workflows, templates, and reporting with the company’s operational needs. Qualifications Required - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical education. - Five or more years of combined experience in electrical engineering and project or construction management. - Proficiency in drafting electrical single-line diagrams, load calculations, and electrical skid designs, and in converting site plans into 3D CAD drawings. - Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and of the provincial amendments and permitting requirements that apply in Alberta and British Columbia. - Demonstrated experience evaluating, selecting, and implementing project management software, and building project management systems and workflows from scratch. - Proven leadership experience managing internal teams and coordinating with external contractors. - Ability and willingness to perform field site visits, take measurements, and produce site plans. - Physically fit and able to perform warehouse duties, including operating a forklift to receive shipments. Forklift certification is an asset; training can be provided. - Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and willingness to travel to job sites. - Resident of, or willing to relocate to, the Greater Edmonton Area. - Self-driven, focused, and able to think critically and solve problems independently, with a genuine willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and processes as the company grows. Strong organizational and communication skills. Preferred - Hands-on experience with EV charging equipment (AC Level 2 and DC fast charging), Solar PV, and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). - Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or other 3D CAD and drafting software. - PMP certification or equivalent formal project management training. - Demonstrated success working with municipalities, utilities, and permitting authorities. What We Offer - Competitive salary of CA$100,000 – $140,000 per year, depending on experience. - Comprehensive benefits, including extended health care, dental care, vision care, life insurance, and disability insurance. - Paid time off. - The opportunity to lead and shape operational systems at a fast-growing clean energy company. - Hands-on involvement with EV charging, solar, and energy storage infrastructure. - A supportive and collaborative team environment.
