Overview We are currently hiring Evening Shift / Weekend Shift – Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanics (2nd–4th Year Preferred) to join our team. This position is ideal for apprentices who already have solid hands-on experience and are looking to further develop their skills in a fast-paced shop working on a diverse fleet of highway trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. You will work alongside experienced Journeyperson technicians while also being trusted to handle tasks independently as your skill level allows. Responsibilities - Shift: 4:00 PM – Midnight - Schedule to be discussed (Mon–Fri or Tue–Sat) - Perform inspections, repairs, and maintenance on: - Heavy trucks and trailers - Heavy equipment - Diagnose and repair: - Diesel engines - Electrical systems and wiring - Hydraulics and air brake systems - Transmissions, drivetrains, PTOs, fuel and exhaust systems - Perform preventative maintenance on fleet equipment - Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues with minimal supervision - Assist with and independently complete assigned repairs - Order and pick up parts as required - Maintain accurate paper and electronic service records - Maintain shop tools, equipment, and cleanliness - Participate in service calls when required - Work closely with management and senior technicians - Follow all company safety policies and procedures Accountabilities - Maintain a safe work environment in and around equipment - Report unsafe conditions and procedures - Take ownership of assigned work and complete tasks efficiently - Ability to plan work and stay productive with minimal supervision - Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a strong team environment - Represent the company professionally to customers and the public Qualifications Education: - Registered Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic (2nd–4th year preferred) Experience & Skills: - Strong working knowledge of: - Diesel engines and mechanical systems - Hydraulics and air brake systems - Electrical systems and schematics - Experience with WABCO and Bendix ABS systems and electrical diagnostics preferred - Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with limited supervision - Experience working on on-road trucks and trailers is a robust asset - CVIP experience or exposure is an asset - Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn Requirements: - Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 1 or 3 is an asset) - Reliable transportation - Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions - Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required Compensation - Competitive hourly wage based on experience and apprenticeship level - Overtime opportunities - Strong candidates with experience will be compensated accordingly Benefits - Dental care - Disability insurance - Extended health care - Life insurance - On-site parking - Paid time off - Vision care Job Type: Full-time Pay: $30.00-$38.00 per hour Benefits: - Dental care - Disability insurance - Extended health care - Life insurance - On-site parking - Paid time off - Vision care Experience: - Heavy Duty Mechanic: 3 years (required) - mechanical: 3 years (required) Language: - English (preferred) Licence/Certification: - Class 5 Licence (required) - Journeyman (required) - Trade Certificate (required) Work Location: In person Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2p5vk3
