Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the Southwest, Waterloo Wellington and Erie St Clair regions. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC’s objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities. We are currently seeking a Dental Assistant, Level II, to join our dental clinic team, providing support at both the London and Chippewa of the Thames First Nation SOAHAC Dental Clinics as required.
Reporting to the Dental Clinic Supervisor, the Dental Assistant, Level II will be instrumental in elevating the operational efficiency of the dental clinics by making decisions within the context of prescribed instructions, guidelines and/or policies and procedures. Based on the knowledge of the organization and Dental Services, as well as the needs of the client, the Dental Assistant exercises sound judgement in making decisions that may be beyond the scope of instructions or documentation. The Dental Assistant is responsible for contributing to the clinical and preventive dental health programs that are offered in the community and being a team player that creates a safe and healthy environment for colleagues and clients.
Responsibilities
Provide all chair-side duties that may reasonably be expected of a Certified Dental Assistant, Level II
Greet clients upon arrival and obtain, and if necessary, assist medical and dental history and ensure proper documentation
Perform any necessary check-in screening
Create charts and enter all client information into the dental software
Ensure rooms are turned over between clients, re-stocking equipment and supplies
Handle and dispose of contaminated dental sharps appropriately
Work in an environment with constant exposure to blood and saliva, often with high-speed intraoral devices producing aerosols
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment, instruments, work and office areas according to routine practice and additional precautions using appropriate solutions
Expose digital radiographs and intraoral images
Assist dentist and dental hygienist with client care as neededProvide preventative dental health instructions to clients
Input and retrieve data to and from dental and other software
Record pertinent information into client chart provided by hygienist during screening services
Support the dental team and clinic manager with administrative and operational tasks as required
Participate in cultural and dental training and quality improvement initiatives as well as regular team meetings
Be willing to participate and support Community Outreach events
Work occasional extended hours as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Quality&Compliance
Requirements
Completion of a Dental Assistant Level II diploma or certificate program; or Certified Dental Assistant Level II
Current HARP certification
Current CPR and first aid certification
Computer proficiency including proven ability to use relevant technology
Experience using computer-based data collection/electronic medical records program
Experience working with ABELdent an asset
Experience working reception and chairside assisting duties an asset
Valid Ontario“G” Driver’s license; personal auto insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
Willing to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, teachings and ceremonies
Clean and current vulnerable sector police check as a condition of employment
