Registered Nurse, Forensic Outreach Post: 56635 - [ONA] • Location: Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care - St. Thomas, ON • Employment Type: Temporary Full Time • Salary: $41.15 - $58.98 /hour • Duration: Until October 16, 2026 (subject to availability) Overview This position provides nursing care to clients with severe and persistent mental illness within the catchment area of Southwestern Ontario. The successful nurse supports the reintegration of individuals within the forensic mental health system into the community under the parameters of the Ontario Review Board. The Forensic Psychiatry Program has adopted the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Model, emphasizing client and family involvement, client choice, and a commitment to achieving best possible outcomes. Responsibilities Provide nursing care, perform mental status examinations, administer treatments, coordinate care in multidisciplinary team meetings and family conferences, engage in teaching of clients, families and caregivers, participate in research and teaching activities as required. Essential Qualifications - Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario - Valid CPR certificate - Well‑developed assessment, consultative practice and evaluation skills for clients with severe and persistent mental illness - Excellent working knowledge of nursing principles, theory, legislation and care needs of clients with severe and persistent mental illness - Capability to establish positive interpersonal relationships and effective teamwork - Demonstrated ability to apply and document the nursing process - Ability to relate therapeutically with clients - Leadership in initiating, coordinating, and participating in team/family conferences and clinical activities - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Excellent organizational, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills - Experience in developing teaching materials and teaching clients, families and caregivers - Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying principles and technology of psychosocial rehabilitation - Ability to conduct and document a thorough Mental Status Examination - Ability to travel within the catchment area - Knowledge of safety culture in a health‑care setting in compliance with OHSA Preferred Qualifications - Proficiency in French - Experience working in mental health - Experience working in a community setting - BScN - Psychiatric Mental Health Worker certification Teaching and Research As an employee of St. Joseph's Health Care London, you will be expected to engage in role‑related teaching and research activities in addition to clinical duties.
