Description
The Board Corporate Secretary is pivotal in contributing to the success of the District’s Vision and Mission by providing strategic and targeted advice and support to the Board of Trustees and the Chief Superintendent. Specific Accountabilities Provides strategic advice and assistance to the Board of Trustees and Chief Superintendent Provides leadership assistance in all facets of governance. Leads the secretarial service to the Board of Trustees Demonstrates sound knowledge of Board Policy, administrative procedures and Robert’s Rules of Order to serve as the parliamentarian to the Board. Asesses risks/advantages and evaluates political climate associated with potential decisions. Provides critical information to the Chief Superintendent relative to the direction given by the Board of Trustees and on their behalf, independently executes the direction of the Board. Provides strategic support for the evaluation of the Chief Superintendent's performance as directed by the Board. Drafts and/or reviews Board and Board Committee reports to ensure complete information and proper context is provided to assist the Board in making decisions. Attends all Board and Board Committee meetings as required. Develops draft agendas, speaking notes and coordinates logistics for meetings of the Board of Trustees and Chief Superintendent. Determines critical information the Board of Trustees requires and coordinates mechanisms to ensure timely communication occurs. Provides expertise to facilitate the alignment of Board actions that support the District's Vision, Mission, priorities, and strategic plan. Provides management and strategic perspective for Committees established to carry out Board functions. Provides strategic advice to the Board Chair in all facets of the District and when requested, deals with issues and tasks on their behalf. Provides support for the election of trustees in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act on behalf of the District, including orientation of a new Board of Trustees. Maintains Board of Trustees section of the website. Manages workflow resulting from Board motions. Provides support for social media and community engagement between parents, public and the Board of Trustees, as required. Education and Experience Degree in business administration, communication, or public administration. Six (6) years to nine (9) years’ experience within education or another public sector environment. Other Skills Strong analytical and management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and various software applications. Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
