Mechanical Design Engineer (Alberta)

Mechanical Design Engineer (Alberta)
Description
Design products that actually work in the real world. At Tangent Design Engineering, we bring bold ideas to life. Our team thrives on solving complex problems with practical, elegant engineering, from early concepts to prototypes, testing, and manufacturing‑ready designs. We’re collaborative, curious, and serious about building things properly. We’re looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Calgary team. This is a great role for someone early in their engineering career who loves product design, wants to keep growing technically, and is interested in pursuing their P.Eng. An EIT designation or eligibility is a strong fit. This role is hands‑on, detail‑driven, and ideal for someone who wants to learn by doing. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on mechanical product development projects, with a particular focus on plastic components, prototypes, and manufacturable design. This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Calgary, Alberta. What You’ll Do As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support product development projects from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. Your work will include: Creating detailed mechanical designs, models, and drawings using SolidWorks. Supporting the design and development of plastic components and product assemblies. Assisting with product design decisions related to materials, manufacturability, durability, and performance. Supporting prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design iterations. Working with prototype manufacturers, suppliers, and internal team members to move designs forward. Assembling and testing prototypes in Tangent’s shop. Documenting design decisions, test results, revisions, and technical details. Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, software, and client teams to solve design challenges. Taking direction from senior engineers while building your own technical judgment and confidence. What We Expect to See on Your Resume A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent technical background. 1 to 3 years of mechanical design, product design, or related engineering experience. EIT designation, eligibility for APEGA membership, or a clear interest in pursuing your P.Eng. Experience with 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks. Exposure to plastic part design, injection molding, thermoforming, molded components, enclosures, consumer products, industrial products, or similar applications. Experience creating mechanical drawings, models, assemblies, and documentation. Comfort working in a Windows and Microsoft Office environment. Hands‑on experience with prototypes, testing, shop work, or product assembly. A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel within Calgary as needed for client or supplier visits. What We’ll Want to Learn in the Interview We’ll be curious about how you think, how you learn, and how you approach design problems. Expect to talk about: Your interest in mechanical design and product development. Your experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD tools. Any exposure you’ve had to plastics, molded parts, enclosures, prototypes, or manufacturing constraints. A project where you helped move a design from idea to something tangible. How you approach feedback, iteration, and technical problem-solving. How you communicate with team members when something is unclear, delayed, or not working. How you balance creativity with practical engineering constraints. What kind of engineering mentorship and growth you’re looking for. What You’ll Get A base salary of $75,000 to $95,000 , based on experience. Health and dental benefits. Values based culture: Innovation, Accountability, Client Service and Team Work Hands‑on exposure to real product development, not just paper specs. Mentorship from experienced engineers. A collaborative team that values problem-solving, quality, wellness, and getting the details right. The prospect to build your engineering career in a company that works on meaningful, practical, and technically interesting projects. How to Apply If you’re a developing mechanical engineer who loves design, likes getting your hands on prototypes, and wants to build products that hold up outside the spreadsheet, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply by uploading your resume online, preferably as one document. We thank all applicants for their interest. While we appreciate every application, only candidates whose qualifications closely align with the role will be contacted. #J-18808-Ljbffr Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2oif20
