KeyResponsibilities Access to Information & Legislative Compliance Lead the intake, coordination, processing, and response to access to information and privacy requests under ATIA and POPA. Review complex records and apply legislative exemptions, severing, and redaction while balancing transparency with investigative and operational sensitivities. Serve as the primary liaison with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) regarding reviews, investigations, and compliance matters. Prepare mandatory reports, submissions, and responses to regulatory and oversight bodies. Provide recommendations to leadership on sensitive or high-risk disclosure decisions. Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for current and existing programs, technologies, and operational initiatives. Identify, assess, and mitigate privacy risks across operational and administrative functions. Investigate and coordinate responses to privacy breaches, incidents, and complaints. Develop and implement corrective actions and privacy best practices. Monitor legislative developments, case law, and emerging privacy trends, particularly within policing and public sector environments. Liaise with municipalities, oversight bodies, police services, and external partners on information sharing and compliance matters. Policy, Training & Information Governance Develop, implement, and maintain privacy, access, and information governance policies, procedures, and frameworks. Support a culture of privacy‑by‑design, accountability, and responsible information management across GPPS. Develop and deliver training and awareness programs for sworn and civilian members. Provide ongoing advisory support regarding lawful collection, use, disclosure, retention, and safeguarding of information. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Law, Information Management, or a related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and significant related experience may be considered. Certificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) is considered an asset. Experience Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in access to information, privacy, or related legal/policy roles. Experience interpreting and applying access and privacy legislation (e.g., ATIA, POPA, FOIP, PIPEDA, or equivalent). Demonstrated ability to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Experience working with oversight bodies, regulators, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Experience managing privacy inquiries, complaints, and breaches, including formal responses. Experience in government, municipal, police, justice, healthcare, or other security‑sensitive environments is considered an asset. Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex legislation clearly. High discretion, ethical standards, and sound judgment in handling sensitive information. Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and build consensus across stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Adobe, and electronic records systems is an asset. Must be able to work effectively with sensitive and occasionally distressing information, including reviewing a range of investigative materials such as reports, images, and video content, which may vary in nature and severity. You will be required to obtain and maintain a Police Enhanced Security Clearance. Hours The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours per week, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
