Description
A growing and fast-paced organization in West Edmonton (fully in office) is looking for an experienced accounting leader to step into a newly created Assistant Controller role. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the day-to-day operations while also helping improve processes, support leadership, and guide a high-performing accounting team. This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity where you’ll oversee core accounting functions including Payroll, AP, AR, and Corporate Accounting while partnering closely with senior finance leadership. The environment is busy, evolving, and team-oriented, with plenty of opportunity to make a meaningful impact. What You’ll Be Doing Lead and support supervisors across Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Corporate Accounting Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations and ensure smooth month‑end close processes Review reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting for accuracy and completeness Manage fixed assets, debt schedules, and transactional accounting activities Support audit readiness, year‑end activities, and compliance requirements Review GST/HST/PST filings and assist with regulatory and tax‑related matters Help strengthen internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and system efficiencies Provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to the accounting team Act as a key resource for escalations, problem‑solving, and operational finance support What We’re Looking For 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience managing accounting teams CPA designation is considered a very strong asset Strong background in full‑cycle accounting and month‑end close Experience overseeing AP, AR, Payroll, and operational accounting functions Experience with ERP systems such as Eclipse or similar platforms is an asset Background in construction, heavy industry, manufacturing, or project‑based environments is beneficial but not required We believe diverse teams build stronger companies, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
