Accountant, Retail, Operations Acctg - Saskatoon, SK or Calgary, AB Location: Calgary, AB, CAN, T2J 7E8 | Saskatoon, SK, CAN, S7K 5R6 Experience Level: Associate Reporting to the Manager, Operations Accounting, the Accountant is responsible for reconciling and maintaining Vendor Prepay contracts, in‑transit activity, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, and reporting. What You’ll Do: Reconcile US and Canadian Vendor Prepay contracts and ensure ending balances are accurate. Partner with Procurement leaders across all shelves (Seed, Chemical and Fertilizer) to ensure accurate setup of vendor prepay contracts; maintain ongoing alignment through regular cadence meetings to review status, raise informed questions, and deliver accurate analysis and reporting to management to support business decisions. Collaborate with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate setup of vendor prepay contracts and proper prepay application; maintain current aging and a strong understanding of contract status. Work closely with Finance and Treasury each fall on Vendor Prepay third‑party financed contracts; ensure contracts are complete, set up correctly, and accounted for appropriately (principal, interest, and working capital). Develop and maintain relationships with Nutrien Ag Solutions Division Admins to address Vendor Prepay questions and concerns in partnership with Accounts Payable. Complete day‑to‑day accounting, month‑end, and quarter‑end close processes, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. Reconcile US and Canadian Inventory Finished Goods In‑Transit. Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Loveland Products Inc., and Dyna‑Gro Accounting and Customer Service teams to research and resolve outstanding AP/AR items and maintain current aging. Complete SAP cut‑over tasks for Vendor Prepay contracts. Complete SOX and external audit requests. Assist in developing solutions to resolve accounting discrepancies. Perform account and data analysis. Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures. Perform other duties and projects as required. What You’ll Bring: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred; a degree in finance from a recognized institution will also be considered. 3+ years of relevant business experience is preferred. Understanding of IFRS & US GAAP rules. Highly detail oriented. Self‑Motivated and able to prioritize and work well with competing deadlines. Mature attitude and ability to deal effectively in a team environment. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to troubleshoot issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Solid integrity and business ethics. Ability to work well with variety of different areas within the company. Ability to lead by example and work well with others. Demonstrated analytical skills are required. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) with a focus on intermediate Excel skills, experience with Power BI, SAP and PeopleSoft is desired.
