Description The Human Performance Lab in the Faculty of Kinesiology is seeking a full-time temporary relief Exercise Physiology Technician for approximately 14 months. The position reports to the Director, Academic Programs and Administration and works closely with the Exercise Physiology Technician Coordinator. Summary of Key Responsibilities Technical Develop and advance technical protocols for the exercise physiology unit, including knowledge of highly technical equipment and its impact on human subjects. Evaluate and recommend future purchase decisions for technical equipment used in research and teaching. Conduct regular equipment inventory and manage maintenance, warranties, and contracts. Provide technical training for staff and students on scientific equipment such as gas spectrometers, metabolic measurement carts, spirometry, physiographs, EMG, ECG, Biodex, biochemical analysis of blood parameters (e.g., lactate, ammonia), and hypoxic altitude equipment. Train staff and students on specific research/testing protocol methodologies. Instruct personnel in equipment maintenance, safety procedures, administrative tasks, laboratory manual preparation, and physiological testing protocols. Learning and Instruction Update and revise laboratory exercises and manuals to align with evolving student and course needs. Support instructors with specific teaching needs, applying a skills‑based instructional approach across the curriculum. Provide pedagogical leadership and facilitate instructional innovation. Prepare and present required curriculum thoroughly and effectively. Instruct on preparation of exercise and testing prescription certification courses (e.g., CSEP‑CEP). Guide student work and collaborate with staff within a skilled atmosphere. Ensure safety protocols are followed in Teaching Exercise Physiology labs. Supervise exercise physiology tests in the Teaching Lab and intervene when necessary. Monitor labs and provide feedback to Graduate Assistants Teaching (GATs). Contribute to calendar and curricular updates. Prepare academic administrative materials regarding individual student cases and broader program structure. General Lab and Administration Maintain teaching area exercise physiology policies. Order and inventory course‑related exercise physiology items. Implement and enforce safety procedures and standards for researchers, students, and staff in the Teaching Lab, including health screening, emergency procedures, and biohazard protocols. Qualifications / Requirements Undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology (graduate degree preferred). Experience in the exercise physiology profession. Advanced knowledge of exercise physiology theory, exercise testing and prescription, and applied research. Current CPR (Level C), First Aid, and CSEP‑CEP certifications.
