Description
Chata Technologies Inc. is a Calgary, Alberta based company that designs and develops conversational user interfaces including an easy-to-use, cloud-based software service, chata.ai. chata.ai is a conversational analytics assistant that helps users access, search, and analyze data. Currently in development, chata.ai is built upon the latest technologies in computational linguistics and machine learning. Position Summary We are seeking an intermediate Database Architect to serve as a pivotal link between our operational database infrastructure and our broader data ecosystem. Working in a complex multi-cloud environment, you will be responsible for the architecture, performance, and maintenance of our PostgreSQL databases in GCP (Cloud SQL, AlloyDB) and our MS SQL Server instances in Azure. This role goes beyond standard administration; you will actively shape our data models, ensure high availability, and drive optimization efforts to support our product requirements, turning raw data storage into a performant and reliable foundation for our operations. Collaboration is at the heart of this position, as you will work closely with our Data Engineering team to architect scalable solutions that bridge the gap between production databases and our analytical environments. You will play a key role in integrating operational data with BigQuery and other data lake technologies, ensuring data consistency and accessibility for downstream analytics. If you are a proactive problem solver who thrives in mixed-technology environments and enjoys taking ownership of both architectural design and hands‑on query tuning, we invite you to help us build the next generation of our data infrastructure. Responsibilities Database Architecture & Design: Design, maintain, and evolve logical and physical data models for PostgreSQL and MS SQL environments to support scalable application requirements. Multi‑Cloud Database Operations: Manage, monitor, and optimize database instances across GCP (Cloud SQL, AlloyDB) and Azure (MS SQL), ensuring high availability, security, and consistent uptime. Data Engineering Collaboration: Partner closely with the Data Engineering team to architect and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines that facilitate seamless data movement between operational stores and analytical environments. Performance Optimization: Proactively identify system bottlenecks by analyzing execution plans and tuning complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers to enhance application performance. Analytics & Data Lake Integration: Integrate operational data with BigQuery and other data lake technologies to support downstream reporting, business intelligence, and advanced analytics initiatives. Standards & Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery; enforce database development standards, including schema versioning and naming conventions. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in database development, architecture, or administration. Core Database Expertise: Deep, hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server. Cloud Proficiency: Proven track record of managing and troubleshooting databases in a cloud environment. Performance Tuning: Strong ability to diagnose performance issues and implement indexing and refactoring strategies in high‑traffic production systems. Team-oriented Mindset: Demonstrated success working alongside Data Engineering or DevOps teams to support data pipelines and warehouse needs. Communication: Strong ability to translate complex technical architectural choices into actionable plans for the wider team. Preferred Requirements Data Warehousing (Asset): Experience with BigQuery or other modern data lake architectures is highly preferred. Modern Table Formats (Asset): Experience with open table formats like Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake. Tooling (Asset): Familiarity with database migration tools (e.g., Liquibase, Flyway) and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) is an asset. #J-18808-Ljbffr Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2pe54r
