Description
Program Supervisor – YMCA of Southern Alberta Reports To: HFA Programs Manager. Pay Grid: Level 2 – $19/hr. Department: Health, Fitness, and Aquatics. Hours: Full time – 40 hrs/week. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership to program staff on behalf of South Ridge and Downtown branches, advancing member satisfaction and growth in programming. Deliver exceptional customer service and member engagement across the facility, maintaining high service standards and satisfaction ratings. Monitor delivery of services and programs in all areas, respond to and prevent service issues and complaints, and circulate throughout the facility consistently. Identify and create opportunities to enhance each member’s YMCA experience and support the Program Manager in achieving annual youth membership growth, youth program growth, and retention targets. Demonstrate and promote YMCA values, mission, vision, and values, and demonstrate appropriate behaviors aligning with YMCA competencies. Collaborate with the HFA team, promote the Y Connect Campaign, participate in YMCA events, and contribute to a positive workplace culture. Train new staff and volunteers to the highest standards and maintain smooth cooperative working relationships with all staff and volunteers. Ensure quarterly staff meetings with Membership Manager, provide front‑line support, and fill in at the front desk as needed. Achieve all quality standards and targets under YMCA best practices and the Standards that Shine, fostering a culture of excellence. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards throughout the facility. Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, supervisors, managers, and senior leadership, resolving workplace conflicts quickly per YMCA policies. Provide direct leadership to a team of approximately 15 staff and 5 volunteers; ensure staff have the skills and knowledge required to perform duties in line with YMCA expectations. Assist Program Manager with HR functions such as hiring, performance management, staff scheduling, and ensuring staff understand program goals. Schedule staff across both branches, managing daily, weekly, and monthly schedules, accommodating availability, time‑off requests, and coverage of shortages. Ensure staff safety and security for youth program participants. Maintain accurate program paperwork, statistics, reports, and records using the Avocado system. Assist with projects and special events as needed and develop quality youth programming that meets YMCA standards for ages 0–17. Work days, evenings, and weekends as required outside of regular shifts and attend all staff training and YMCA meetings. Adhere to YMCA Child Protection and Operational Policies, public health and safety regulations, occupational health and safety, and other relevant legislation and policies. Qualifications and Skills Provincially/Nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor Certification (YMCA, AFLCA, CanFitPro) – preferred. National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) – preferred. Certificate or Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related experience – preferred. Standard First Aid, CPR‑Level C. Valid police information check with vulnerable sector search within the last six months. Valid driver’s license with class 07 automobile insurance coverage for business use and minimum $2,000,000 liability coverage. Proficient computer skills, MS Office suite. Strong leadership and management skills. Professional demeanor, representing YMCA values in all situations. Ability to handle difficult situations and complaints with confidence. Excellent customer service, organization, and time‑management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
