Purpose of the Position Step into the dynamic role of Disability Management (DM) Specialist, where you’ll make a meaningful impact by partnering with a diverse range of collaborators to empower ill, injured, or disabled employees on their journey back to work. By blending compassion with innovation, you'll play a pivotal role in crafting tailored solutions that ensure safe, efficient, and empowering transitions. Position Accountabilities Manage the Disability Management Program for employees unable work due to illness or injury Maintain and encourage open communication with employees, management, unions, Human Resources, healthcare professionals, and insurance representatives Coordinate medical evaluations and functional tests to understand employees' abilities Review job/physical demands and develop personalized plans to help employees return to work, using knowledge of human rights legislation, Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Workers' Compensation, and return-to-work principles/practices for U.S. and Canada, and ensuring confidentiality Educate employees and supervisors about Disability Management and compliance with safety standards Utilize tools like Word, Excel, Outlook, and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) like SAP while assisting employees who are unable to be accommodated in their own position, find alternative job opportunities or placements Position Requirements Post-secondary degree or diploma, or formal education in a health-related or disability management field with a preference for Nursing Degree and/or Occupational Health Certification 4+ years of experience in return-to-work programs, claims management, or disability management in a unionized or corporate setting Experience applying accommodation principles and vocational rehabilitation strategies for ill or injured employees Availability for travel (approximately 10-20% of the time) Valid Canadian passport: allowing entry/re-entry to the United States required or ability to obtain one within 90 days of starting What CPKC Has to Offer Flexible and competitive benefits package Competitive company pension and/or retirement plans Employee Share Purchase Plan Performance Incentive Plan Annual Fitness Subsidy Pre-Employment Requirements Criminal history check Education verification Qualified references Becoming a railroader: As an employee with a North American presence, the possibility does exist that the location of your position may be changed based on organizational requirements. Management Conductor Program Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
