Description
The Electrical Designer is responsible for the electrical design of modular structures, site installation, and site services. This role involves exploring buildability, standard designs, and energy codes to inform future innovation while preparing designs, drawings, and bills of materials. The position supports plant and construction teams and requires timely, quality documentation. Responsibilities Timely delivery of Building Code Compliant and cost‑effective electrical production and site construction drawings through acute collaboration with other design disciplines, project management, manufacturing, estimating, and supply chain. Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Architectural, and structural) to ensure seamless integration to Approved for Construction drawing status. Assist the electrical estimator in preliminary design and sales drawing preparation as required. Prepare electrical design drawings using the current Canadian Electrical Code, Energy Codes, Standards, and installation methods from the design package containing the bid specifications and sales drawings. Prepare work scope and electrical equipment specifications. Prepare design and equipment layout considering access, maintenance, and installation. Prepare accurate, detailed material take‑offs which also identify long‑lead items. Conduct plant visits for project inspections and other duties as assigned. Calculate electrical loads, lighting levels, service, and distribution requirements. Design, source, and evaluate fire alarm systems. Reference the product cost estimate during the drawing process and raise any significant anomalies with the appropriate internal stakeholders. Maintain awareness of current building codes through internal and external technical resources. Interact with the internal stakeholders of the manufacturing team frequently to confirm the accuracy of drawings, material take‑off selections/quantities, buildability, and opportunities for improvement. Develop drafting and procedure standards in conjunction with various team members. Participate in various continual improvement initiatives. Qualifications 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical design (power, lighting, fire alarm, controls, security, and data). Experience in Revit is a must and BIM360; knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset but not necessary. Completion of the Electrical Engineering Technology program or Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (not a must). Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, National Fire Alarm Code, National & Provincial Building Codes, National Energy Code of Canada, and knowledge of US building codes and electrical codes is considered an asset. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Knowledge of discipline drawings and modular building construction is an asset. Ability to create and maintain Revit families. A self‑starter and team player with good organizational skills. Interest in understanding the trade aspects of the discipline.
