What you’ll do Reporting to the Store Manager, the Produce Manager is responsible for overall operation of the produce department, including sales, gross margin, and expense control, budgeting and attainment of financial results. Responsibilities include meeting department standards, implementing and adhering to company programs, and human resources and administrative duties. The Produce Manager will provide leadership to all positions within the Produce department and exemplify and promote the Co-op’s branding initiatives. This role leads their Team Members to offer exceptional customer service while adhering to all policies, procedures, food safety and food handling standards, and Health and Safety initiatives. Ensure standards of the department’s presentation and operations are met, including cleanliness and sanitation, food safety and food handling standards, inventory control, rotation, ordering, and delivery of customer service. Responsible for the preparation, assembly, displaying and merchandising of produce-related inventories in the department. Maintain inventory controls, image, and fixed assets, and perform administrative responsibilities. Responsible for department equipment maintenance, and report when repairs are required. Encouraging a positive team atmosphere that enables the team to meet or exceed goals and achieve consistently high levels of customer service. Provide leadership and direction in developing and achieving financial results and budget. Provide leadership and direction to employees in accordance with company policies, procedures, programs, merchandising standards, and overall expectations. Encourage Team Members to be passionate about the way they present themselves, their store, the products, and their services. Provide leadership in employee relations, hiring, training, development, performance management, assigning duties, discipline, recognition, termination, security, union contract compliance, and administration of policy and procedures. Celebrate successes and foster an atmosphere of employee engagement. Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations. Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards. Who are you You are looking for a career in Retail Store Operations and have: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a retail food workplace. Minimum 2 years of experience leading a department or location within a retail workplace. A background in produce is preferred. A diploma or degree in business, management, or a related field would be an asset. Demonstrated effective team leadership skills and the ability to work well within multi-generational teams. Ability to adapt to current technology, and tech savvy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Outlook and Excel). Must have experience with daily paperwork, scheduling, etc., and must be familiar with ordering receiving, inventory management. Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Holds a valid class 5 license (preferred). Results-driven and continuous improvement focused with a strong ability to respond to evolving priorities effectively. Leadership and coaching expertise, including strong facilitation, collaboration, influence, and relationship management skills. Managerial courage, evidenced by a strong ability to identify and address issues quickly and directly, and provide specific and actionable feedback to others. Superior mentoring skills and a demonstrated ability to foster the engagement and development of direct reports, challenge and stretch Team Members in meaningful ways, and build a strong, agile team. Working Conditions Long periods of standing, walking, being on one’s feet for an extended period of time. Frequent motions include bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. Ability to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 11.5kg (25lbs); lift boxes up to 22.5 kg (50lbs) on an intermittent basis. Ability to push or pull up to 1,350 pounds using a pallet jack. Ability to break down and reassemble all equipment in the department for sanitation purposes. Exposure to temperature extremes (coolers, store temperatures, outside temperatures). Handling sharp knives and other equipment (such as slicers, coring machines). On-call as required, work on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Availability Ability to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
