About the Role Our public sector client is seeking a Senior Service Designer for a 6‑month full‑time contract, with the possibility of up to a 12‑month extension. The Service Designer will be required on a full‑time basis (7.25‑hour work day, 36.25 hours per week) to focus on delivering data products with agility, emphasizing business outcomes, innovation, and transformation so that data is treated as a corporate asset. This role supports the Data Product Delivery team in defining scope, roadmap, design, prototyping, and product opportunities for the client and its external partners as needed. The role improves access to and informed use of client data assets both within and outside the organization to support policy analysis, program planning, and decision‑making. It requires critical thinking across the organization and deeper analysis on data access, governance, and the data economy. The Service Designer will work closely with analysts, managers, and leaders across the department to design, advise, and recommend solutions for data product delivery. The Service Designer supports the leadership and direction for Data Product Services, Data Analytics Services, and Data Architecture services. Location & Hours Remote work from within Canada. Standard hours are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday, excluding client holidays. Remote work is primary, but onsite meetings may be required up to 3‑4 times per month. Travel is not paid and no travel expenses are covered. Compensation & Contract Contract: 6‑month full‑time, with the possibility of a 12‑month extension. Rate: $87 per hour. Responsibilities The Service Designer will be responsible for: Review, discovery, requirements gathering, process mapping, service design, technical documentation, prototyping, evaluation, and gap analysis for program review and data product delivery. Integrating human‑centered design methods into program review and data product delivery. Analyzing and documenting project outcomes related to staff efficiency and citizen service access. Analyzing internal and external data user experiences across channels (data pipelines, user interfaces, catalogues, architecture) and identifying gaps, opportunities, and solutions. Iterative deliverables include: User and behavioral field research Co‑design workshops Prototype design and testing Concept testing Journey map and service blueprint development Process mapping Service prototyping User story mapping and creation Usability testing Service performance measurement, analysis, and reporting Strategy and roadmap documents or diagrams Additional responsibilities: Depict overall end‑to‑end data/analytics product service journey, state mapping, and specific needs, opportunities, solutions, and metrics. Create a plan for integrating design and product features into the overall data service experience and measuring results. Co‑design and develop current processes and policies with programme teams to effect change management. Plan integration of new data architectural solutions into existing service operations, examining impacts of migration, innovation, change management, and governance. Qualifications Education Must meet or exceed one of the following: University graduation in computer science, IT or related discipline with 4‑year related experience. 2‑year diploma in computer science, IT or related discipline with 6‑year related experience. 1‑year certificate in computer science, IT or related discipline with 7‑year related experience. Currently active professional certification or accreditation with 8‑year relevant experience. Work Experience 6 years experience creating journey maps and service blueprints or other visual representations of user needs. 6 years experience facilitating and leading co‑design workshops. 8 years experience working with digital or data product (data pipelines, user interfaces, catalogues, architecture). 8 years experience as a Service Designer on projects comparable in size and complexity to service innovation, programme review, or digital transformation projects such as an Enterprise client. 5 years experience analysing research data and presenting findings in diverse ways. 5 years experience creating service metrics and measures. 5 years experience moving through projects shifting focus from small details to understanding the whole system and the relationships between them. 5 years experience planning, conducting and analysing behavioural/ethnographic field research to understand user, employee, and government needs and goals. 2 years experience working in or for the public sector.
