About Western Varieties Western Varieties is Canada's largest Indigenous‑owned supplier of Indigenous goods with a storefront located in Edmonton, Alberta. We are a bridge between community and culture, specializing in Indigenous giftware, Buffalo Cross blankets, The Good Place gift boxes, and a wrapped gift program that distributes 20,000+ wrapped children's toys to companies and organizations across Canada every year. We are looking for a creative, motivated youth to help us modernize our outreach and build a visual roadmap for the year ahead. The Role This is a hands‑on marketing and design role perfect for someone looking to build a skilled portfolio. You won’t just be “helping out”—you will be a key contributor to our visual identity. You will work directly with our Web and Marketing specialist, receiving one‑on‑one mentoring and professional guidance while having the creative freedom to create an awesome marketing plan. This will be a temporary role starting on or after June 1, 2026 and ending on or before August 31, 2026. Hours of work will be 9:30AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. Key Responsibilities 12‑Month Strategy: Research and develop a comprehensive 12‑month marketing calendar to keep Western Varieties ahead of seasonal trends and community events. Visual Design: Use Canva to create a cohesive visual identity across all platforms, including in‑store posters, social media graphics, and website banners. Asset Creation: Produce professional promotional items that align with our brand standards and cultural values. Brand Alignment: Ensure all marketing materials reflect the heritage and community‑focused mission of Western Varieties. Team-oriented Mentoring: Participate in strategy sessions with our marketing lead and Director of Operations to refine designs and learn how track campaign effectiveness. Mandatory Eligibility Requirements (CSJ) Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada. Note: If your SIN begins with a 9, you will be required to provide a letter from the IRB or a valid PR card to confirm residency. Qualifications Strong proficiency in Canva or other graphic design software. A keen eye for layout, typography, and “on‑brand” aesthetics. Excellent written communication skills for social media copywriting and planning. Self‑motivated with the ability to manage a project from brainstorm to final file export. An interest in Indigenous culture and the wholesale/retail industry. Job Types Full‑time, Permanent. Pay: $18.00 per hour.
