Location: Calgary, Alberta (with up to 20% travel across Canada and the United States) Duration: 12 Months (with potential extension) Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday Position Overview The Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical leadership and engineering support to Midstream Operations, ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of electrical infrastructure across a network of terminals and distribution facilities. This position will lead electrical Management of Change (MOC) initiatives, support capital and expense projects, steward engineering documentation, and provide subject matter expertise for electrical systems throughout the asset lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Project Engineering, Procurement, and Automation teams to improve asset performance, reduce risk, and support operational excellence. Competencies Technical Expertise Extensive knowledge of industrial electrical systems and equipment. Experience with medium and low voltage power distribution systems. Strong understanding of switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, generators, motors, protective relaying, grounding systems, and electrical infrastructure. Experience developing electrical specifications, datasheets, installation drawings, single-line diagrams, and engineering standards. Working knowledge of electrical regulatory requirements and industry standards including CSA, IEEE, NFPA, and applicable provincial/state regulations. Ability to identify deficiencies in engineering documentation and lead record reconciliation activities. Project & Engineering Leadership Experience leading Management of Change (MOC) processes for electrical assets. Ability to develop scopes of work for replacement-in-kind (RIK), expense, and small capital projects. Experience managing project scope, schedule, cost, and technical deliverables. Ability to supervise engineering consultants and contractors throughout project execution. Experience supporting large capital projects through FEL, FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and startup phases. Operations & Reliability Support Experience supporting operating facilities in identifying opportunities to improve safety, reliability, and performance. Ability to support equipment failure investigations and provide technical recommendations. Knowledge of asset management principles, equipment criticality assessments, and maintenance strategies. Strong collaboration skills with Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability teams. Communication & Leadership Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong ability to influence stakeholders and provide technical leadership across multiple disciplines. Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities. Proven ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Key Responsibilities Provide technical engineering support to Midstream Operations for electrical equipment upgrades, modifications, and replacement projects. Lead electrical-focused Management of Change (MOC) initiatives. Develop scopes of work, technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, and engineering deliverables. Lead expense and small capital projects involving electrical assets. Review and maintain controlled engineering records and documentation. Support procurement activities through technical evaluations and engineering requisitions. Manage external engineering consultants and contractors. Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), technical reviews, and regulatory compliance activities. Support incident investigations involving electrical equipment failures. Provide electrical discipline expertise on major capital projects. Identify opportunities for equipment standardization and optimization across the distribution network. Support environmental, safety, and operational excellence initiatives. Participate in corporate technical excellence and engineering network programs. Position Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or eligibility for registration with APEGA. Minimum 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience within oil & gas, midstream, pipeline, terminal, refinery, petrochemical, or industrial facilities. Demonstrated experience leading Management of Change (MOC) processes. Experience supporting brownfield facility modifications and operational assets. Solid knowledge of electrical power systems and industrial electrical equipment. Experience managing contractors, consultants, and external engineering resources. Proven project engineering experience supporting capital and expense projects. Ability to travel up to 20% throughout Canada and the United States. Preferred Qualifications Midstream terminal or distribution network experience. Experience supporting operating facilities and owner‑operator environments. Knowledge of reliability‑centered maintenance principles. Experience with electrical asset management programs.
