About the Position The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) has a significant prospect to improve the health of Indigenous Peoples in Alberta by focusing on upstream efforts and health equity, creating and building on community empowerment and action, and transforming health service delivery to address racism and focus more on determinants of health and prevention. The IWC is the mechanism through which PCA plans to achieve on‑going provincial improvement in Indigenous health, patient outcomes and experience, health improvement and sustainability of Alberta’s health system. Reporting directly to the Program Lead, the Research Associate will support the IWC in achieving its goals and objectives. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with project members to plan, implement, and evaluate research projects across IWC’s Strategic Directions. Responsibilities The Research Associate will: Support practical research engagement on‑site (e.g., assisting with community‑level Knowledge Translation events, land‑based research activity, or community research engagement meetings) or by distance (e.g., conducting environmental scans or literature reviews for proposals) under the supervision of the Scientific Office of the IWC. Advance IWC’s research goals, aligned with the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences’ health research evaluation framework, to advance knowledge, build research capacity, inform decision‑making, impact health, and create broad economic and social impacts. Required Qualifications The Research Associate must hold a Master’s Degree in a health‑related field and have a minimum of three years’ experience in a health promotion or population health‑related field. Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodology in Indigenous health and/or public health research. Demonstrated skills in research methods, particularly quantitative research methodologies and biostatistical analyses. Strong technical writing skills and ability to translate complex scientific evidence for informed decision‑making. At least two years’ experience working with statistical analysis software (SAS, Stata, or SPSS preferred). Firm understanding of research design and methods. Self‑directed with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Strong written and oral communication skills for developing oral presentations, summaries, reports, journal articles, systematic literature reviews, and manuscripts. Knowledge of social determinants of health and associated modifiable risk factors, including strategies and best‑practice evidence. Ability to work with high‑level external and internal key stakeholders. Ability to facilitate and participate in working groups and steering committees. Knowledge of project management methodology in a health‑care setting. Conflict‑management expertise focusing on group dynamics and diverse priorities. Experience in literature reviews and synthesis of large amounts of information. Aptitude for building and sustaining complex relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Robust computer skills and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and relational databases. Proficiency in SAS, Stata, SPSS, and Tableau. Knowledge of Indigenous Research Methodologies and sensitivity to the culture and health issues of Indigenous peoples, as well as successful experience working in multicultural environments. Ability to navigate PCA systems and processes.
