Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving the education needs of approximately 17,750 students in 43 schools. Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a full time Education Assistant at the Ranch Learning Centre. The Ranch Learning Centre is an Intensive Treatment Program treating children and youth covered under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act from the ages of 10 to 24 years old. The program includes an onsite school that employs two full‑time teachers and one support staff. Ranch Learning Centre staff work in collaboration with the local high school, Lamont High, to support youth in achieving success within a school setting. The school utilizes a variety of methods and theory models such as strength‑based, solution‑focused strategies, cognitive behaviour therapy, and other models that fit with individual youth. The Ranch Learning Centre believes in the importance of individualising services to meet the specific needs of the youth it supports. The Ranch Learning Centre serves approximately 5‑7 students in grades 7 to 12, with 2 teaching staff and 1 Education Assistant. The school is located 3 kilometres from Lamont. Commencing August 27, 2026 32.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday – 6.5 hours per day) Open to Internal and external applicants, with priority given to permanent employees Click on “Sign in With Employee Email” to be considered an Internal Applicant EIPS offers a comprehensive benefit package Job Summary The Education Assistant (EA) assists teachers in creating a welcoming, protected, and caring classroom that supports effective learning and student success. Reporting to the Principal, the EA is assigned to assist teachers with many instructional and non‑instructional tasks in the classroom and during school activities. This includes providing student supervision and assisting students with personal, physical, and medical care. Under the direction of the teacher, and through interdisciplinary team planning, the position supports programming for students and assists with the implementation of developmental and behavioural strategies. The Certified EA has received specialized training to assist children and youth who have a wide range of abilities and exceptionalities including significant emotional and behavioural challenges, learning difficulties and complex physical health concerns. Qualifications Education High School Diploma Preference will be given to candidates with an Educational Assistant Certificate or a comparable post‑secondary diploma or certificate Participation in the EIPS Education Assistant Internship Program is considered an asset Experience 2 years of related experience working with children or youth. Experience working in a school is an asset. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to take direction and work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of classroom routines, assistive technology and other care equipment. Experience providing complex personal and physical care. Experience using de‑escalation, emotional regulation, and co‑regulation techniques. Strong collaboration, organizational, and time management skills. Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination. Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of applicable Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Positive knowledge of computers and applicable technology.
