Description
We are looking for a Sr. Accountant to join our team in Thorold, Ontario on a Contract basis. In this role, you will play a key part in month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and fund accountability, supporting accurate and timely financial insights across multiple programs and entities. The ideal candidate is a fast learner, highly analytical, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven setting with strong attention to detail. Responsibilities: - Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and trial balance review - Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports with clear budget vs. actual analysis and commentary on key variances - Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including development of assumptions, resource planning, and program-level allocations - Perform detailed financial analysis and expense reporting to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fund reporting packages, ensuring reconciliation to the general ledger and compliance with funding requirements - Maintain and monitor funding agreements to ensure proper use of restricted funds and adherence to reporting obligations - Support audit processes by preparing working papers, including accruals, deferred revenue schedules, and allocation support - Build and maintain financial models and reporting tools in Excel to support forecasting, analysis, and reporting consistency - Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. - At least 5 years of experience in financial analysis, financial reporting, or a similar accounting-focused role. - Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis with a high level of accuracy. - Hands-on experience using Sage 300 and advanced Excel for financial modelling and reporting. - Strong understanding of general ledger structures, funder reporting, and audit support documentation. - Ability to investigate discrepancies, assess data quality, and resolve reporting issues efficiently. - Familiarity with business systems and reporting tools, platforms, or related applications is considered an asset. - Solid planning, review, and ad hoc reporting capabilities, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
