Description
Civic Laboratory for Environmental Action Research (CLEAR), Memorial University
CLEAR is seeking a Research Coordinator to lead the day-to-day coordination of a horizon scan on Indigenous approaches to contaminant monitoring. This project involves the design and administration of a survey as well as a systematic literature review, and is grounded in Indigenous, community-engaged, justice-oriented research practices.
This position is best suited to someone with demonstrated experience who can work independently, manage timelines, and contribute to a collaborative research environment. We are looking for a coordinator who shares CLEAR’s commitments to careful, ethical, and place-based research, and who brings both technical skill and strong judgment to their work.
Full-time (30–35 hours/week) until December 23, 2026 (timeline is firm; hours may be negotiated)
Location: Remote or in‑person (St. John’s, NL)
Format: Independent contract or employment position (with flexibility to structure)
Salary: Determined through Memorial University HR based on experience (typically in the range of $30–36/hour, ~ $70,000/year for similar roles)
Flexible scheduling available
Responsibilities
Coordinate and carry out day-to-day operations of the project
Co‑design, implement, and manage an online survey
Lead a systematic literature review
Navigate and complete ethics review processes
Support data organization, analysis, and reporting in collaboration with the wider research team
Maintain clear communication across project partners
Required experience and skills
Demonstrated experience and strong skills designing and conducting online surveys. Note that we will not consider applicants who do not have experience conducting surveys.
Experience in completing research ethics applications and protocols
Experience conducting systematic literature reviews
Familiarity with Indigenous methodologies in research contexts
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Strong organizational and communication skills
Eligibility to work in Canada, either as an employee or remote independent contract.
An example of previous survey research, including survey instruments
The Research Coordinator will work closely with Dr. Max Liboiron and the CLEAR lab team at Memorial University. The role focuses on coordination and implementation; research design and analysis will be shared across the project team. The person can become a full CLEAR lab member, remote or in person. They can also choose to work as an external, remote contractor.
CLEAR is committed to creating a working environment that is collaborative, respectful, and attentive to the conditions that make good research possible. We aim to structure this role so that it is feasible across a range of career paths and life circumstances.
This position is funded by the SSHRC grant,“IMPACT Plastics: Indigenous Metrics and Practices for Assessing Community-based Tracking of Plastics” #1018-2025-00080
