The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is seeking an Editor to provide high‑quality editorial support for digital and print cancer information content. The role focuses on ensuring that all information is clear, accurate, accessible, and aligned with CCS writing standards. Responsibilities
Edit cancer‑related information for clarity, comprehensibility, and tone Proofread online content, video scripts, descriptive transcripts, and print booklets Ensure all content is clear, accurate, inclusive, and aligned with the CCS writing manual and plain‑language standards Develop and maintain cancerinformation standards and guidelinesApply and advise on grammar, tone, style, and in‑house CCS editorial standards Collaborate with content writers and cross‑functional partners by providing clear comments, guidance, and rationale for edits Ensure consistent use of plain language, inclusive language, and accessibility best practicesContribute updates to editorial guidelines, templates, and content standards Stay current with evolving editorial, language, and accessibility standards relevant to consumer health information Support enterprise content initiatives, including governance or standards committees Edit or proofread content for other departments– e.g., social media posts, impact reports, statistics publications, infographicsMeet with the content team regularly to address content gaps and improve editorial processes Help expand the reach of CCS cancer information products by applying plain‑language standards and inclusive language only across all formats Contribute to the culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented and valued across all aspects of their identityQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Health or Science Communications Minimum 5 years of experience writing, editing, and applying plain‑language standards Minimum 5 years of editing for digital, including accessibility and usability considerations Experience with consumer healthcontent, cancer‑related information or medical information is an assetFamiliarity with CMSs, SEO, information architecture, taxonomy, and digital content production workflows Experience with AI‑assisted writing and editing tools (e.g., language models, grammar enhancement tools, content‑analysis tools) Strong editorial judgement, grammar, clarity, and stylistic editing skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with writers, PMs, and SMEs Ability to manage time effectively and work independently within project timelines Bilingualism (French/English) highly preferred, with French as an asset, for nationwide operations Professional designation (e.g., Editors Canada) and additional training or professional development in editing or plain language considered an assetOpen to applications from all qualified candidates, including those from equity‑deserving groups Benefits&Perks
