Your Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Building Electrical Designer to join our team in St John’s, NL. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in electrical design for commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings, along with demonstrated experience participating in client meetings, coordination sessions, and project presentations. This role requires solid technical design skills, familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders. Responsibilities Develop electrical designs, drawings, and specifications for building systems, including: Power distribution Lighting and lighting controls Fire alarm and life‑safety systems Emergency/backup power systems Communications and low‑voltage systems (as applicable) Prepare technical documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, and other design tools. Conduct load calculations, short‑circuit analysis, and equipment sizing. Coordinate with mechanical, structural, architectural, and other design disciplines. Participate in client meetings, design presentations, and project coordination discussions. Review and interpret building codes, standards, and client requirements to ensure compliance. Provide support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits as required. Ensure design quality, accuracy, and adherence to project timelines. Collaborate with project managers and senior engineers to deliver projects efficiently. Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring. Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees. Qualifications A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including: Canadian Electrical Code National Building Code of Canada CSA, IEEE, IES standards Strong communication skills—both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. EIT, CET, or P.Eng. designation (or eligibility) considered an asset. Detail‑oriented and organized. Strong problem‑solving abilities. Collaborative mindset with robust interpersonal skills. Committed to self‑development and ongoing learning and professional development. Able to interface confidently with clients and project teams. Experience Minimum 5 years of experience in building electrical design. Experience attending or supporting client and stakeholder meetings. Experience working in Canada and familiarity with local building requirements and utility standards (e.g., Newfoundland Power).
