THE CHANCE We have an immediate opportunity for a full-time (permanent) Carpenter. The ideal candidate will have experience in residential or commercial construction and at least three (3) years of carpentry experience. Quality and a keen eye a must. In this position, you will work for KJAMES Custom Homes, and periodically our sister company SUNSPACE Rideau Lakes. In order to be considered for this position you must have a valid Ontario driver's license and a clean abstract. OVERVIEW: The Carpenter at KJAMES Custom Homes (K. James Construction) is responsible for for performing hands-on carpentry work on a variety of projects. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Hands-On Carpentry & Site Work: - Perform traditional carpentry tasks as time permits, maintaining productivity and craftsmanship – examples: - complete framing (walls, floors, roofs) - trenching for utilities - digging, sonotubes, laying conduit, etc. - Execute interior and exterior finishes including siding, soffits, trim, windows, doors, and insulation systems. - Ensure proper installation of air barriers, and other envelope components. QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum 3 years’ residential or commercial carpentry experience (custom home experience is an asset, but a willingness to learn is equally valuable). - Strong understanding of building codes, sequencing, and safety procedures. - Strong communication and teamwork skills and a comfort level working with subtrades on site. - Valid Ontario driver’s license with reliable transportation and a clean enough driver’s abstract to ensure KJAMES insurance premiums are not adversely affected. - Employees will travel to job sites from the shop in a KJAMES vehicle, unless other arrangements are required and approved by the Operations Manager on specific occasions. - Working at Heights certification required. - Proficiency with hand and power tools. - Physically capable of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. WORKING CONDITIONS: - Monday to Friday, full-time hours (M – Th: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, F: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm) - Occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines. - Travel between office site and job sites daily. - This position works outdoors in all elements/seasons, as well as indoors in dwellings that are under construction and may still be exposed to the elements. - Long periods of standing and walking. - Frequent periods of standing, walking, climbing and/or crouching. - Regular requirement to lift up to 50 lbs and use of construction tools and materials. - Employees are required to bring their own standard PPE (Ex. hard hat, CSA Boots, gloves), tool belt, and hand tools.
