Description
The purpose of the ophthalmic technician is to support the ophthalmologist in the initial workup of a patient. If you do not have any previous training in ophthalmic assistant/ophthalmic technician, training will be provided on the job. In addition, if you complete the ophthalmic technician diploma certification while working, you will get a salary bonus. Tuition will be covered if you continue to work for me for 2 years after completing the certification. Responsibilities: - Assist patients into the examination room, maintaining proper infectious control - Perform preliminary eye testing, including taking a visual acuity, colour vision assessment, eye pressure measurement - Administer eye drops to patients - Perform various ophthalmic diagnostic tests including keratometry, biometry, OCT, visual field testing, retinal imaging - Document patient medical history including past medical history, drug history, family history, and document patient's chief complaint - Assist ophthalmologist in setting up the examination room for various procedures such as eye injections, small eyelid procedures - Be willing to learn how to counsel patients for cataract surgery and provide post-operative care instructions - Be willing to cross-train some MOA duties including assist with front desk duties such as scheduling appointments, completing patient intake, verifying insurance information, and answering phone calls Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification as an ophthalmic technician is a plus - Previous experience in a medical office or ophthalmology/optometry setting preferred - Proficiency in using the computer and electronic medical record systems - Solid attention to detail and ability to accurately perform diagnostic tests - Excellent communication skills and ability to provide exceptional patient care Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
