Recreation Programs Coordinator - Seniors Programming This is a 9‑month full‑time temporary contract. The position is under the supervision of the Manager of Recreation and Culture.

Position Summary The Recreation Programs Coordinator will assist in the organization, planning, and delivery of all recreation leisure programs and activities, with a focus on seniors programming. Responsibilities include researching program trends, developing new recreation programs, promoting and marketing recreation programs and events, and supporting day‑to‑day operations of municipal recreation programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Seek and establish partnerships with community groups and organisations to enhance recreation programs.

Lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of seniors programming.

Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of school‑year day camp programmes, recreation programmes and party packages, including winter and March Break camps, party packages, tournaments, leagues, drop‑in and registered recreation and leisure programmes.

Assist with the recruitment, selection, orientation and development of recreation and programme staff.

Participate in the training, coaching and evaluation of recreation volunteers and part-time recreation staff.

Organise and/or lead training sessions, provide ongoing feedback to staff and conduct performance reviews on designated occasions.

Manage and evaluate the volunteer programme that supports day camp, party packages, recreation programmes and events.

Plan and lead staff meetings with volunteers and part‑time recreation staff team, establishing appropriate number and times of meetings with guidance from the Manager of Recreation and Culture.

Schedule volunteers and part‑time recreation staff for recreation programmes, party packages and special events.

Perform customer service duties such as booking facilities in the absence of the Events and Booking Coordinator.

Ensure participant, volunteer and staff safety through due diligence and risk management practices, and maintain safe operation of municipal recreation equipment and facilities.

Adhere to the Municipality’s Customer Service Standards when acting in a frontline service capacity.

Ensure completion and coordination of all recreation programme‑related documentation (e.g., accident/incident reports, behaviour reports, complaint reports).

Develop and coordinate marketing and promotions for all seniors programming, assisting in the coordination of marketing and promotions for day camp programmes, recreation programmes and party packages, including radio and print advertisements and website updates.

Apply for and/or assist with grant applications for recreation programme and recreation infrastructure funding.

Work day, evening and weekend shifts as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

Post‑secondary education in a relevant field such as Program Coordination, Recreation and Leisure.

Minimum three years of programming experience, preferably in seniors programming.

Understanding of and work within the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Municipal policies.

Knowledge of the methods, procedures, principles and practices involved in seniors recreation programming operations.

Excellent interpersonal, written, oral and public‑relations skills, focusing on customer‑service excellence.

Computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Ability to work successfully with a team or independently.

Valid Class "G" Ontario Driver’s licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Valid Vulnerable Sector Check prior to starting employment.

Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Compensation Band 3– \$56,838.60 to \$71,052.80 per year (2026 rates)

Benefits Voluntary enrolment in the OMERS pension plan.
