Job Title: Drop-In Centre Support Staff Location: 24 Energy Court Hours: 8–24 hours per week. $25.00 per hour. 8:30 am – 9:30 pm. Evenings and weekends are required. Reports To: Drop-In Centre Supervisor Position Overview

The Drop-In Centre Support Staff is responsible for providing compassionate, hands-on support to guests of the Drop-In Centre. This role involves creating a welcoming and safe environment, assisting with the provision of basic needs, and connecting guests with resources and support services. The Support Staff will work closely with the Drop-In Centre team to ensure that guests receive the care and assistance they need during their time in the space.Key Responsibilities

Guest Intake and Registration

Welcome guests in a respectful and non-judgmental manner, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported upon arrival. Conduct guest intake, including basic information gathering and needs assessment, while respecting guest confidentiality. Explain Drop-In Centre policies and procedures, ensuring guests understand the rules and services available.Supportive Engagement and Assistance

Build rapport with guests, offering support, guidance, and a listening ear as needed. Assist guests with accessing services such as food, hygiene supplies, and hydration. Provide emotional support and engage with guests in a compassionate and respectful manner, recognizing the challenges they may be facing.Basic Needs Provision

Assist in the preparation and distribution of snacks, ensuring that guests have access to nutritious food throughout the day. Distribute hygiene supplies and other essential items to guests as needed. Help maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the Drop-In Centre, including common and seating areas.Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution

Identify and respond to situations involving guests in distress, using de-escalation techniques to address conflicts and maintain a safe environment. Coordinate with security personnel and other staff to manage challenging behaviours and ensure the safety of all guests and staff. Assist in connecting guests to additional support services, such as mental health or addiction resources, as appropriate.Resource Navigation and Referrals

Provide information and referrals to guests seeking additional services, such as housing support, healthcare, or addiction treatment. Assist guests with navigating available resources and services within the Drop-In Centre and the broader community. Work with the Drop-In Centre Supervisor and other team members to coordinate follow-up care and support for guests in need.Team Collaboration and Communication

Work collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure coordinated service delivery and support. Participate in team meetings and training sessions, sharing insights and feedback to improve service quality and guest experience. Communicate effectively with the Drop-In Centre Supervisor and other team members regarding guest needs, incidents, or concerns.Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of guest interactions, services provided, and any incidents or concerns, following organizational policies. Complete necessary documentation for referrals and service coordination. Report any safety or security concerns to the Drop-In Centre Supervisor immediately. Health and Safety

Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure a safe workplace for guests and staff. Provide basic first aid or connect guests to appropriate medical care as needed (training will be provided if necessary). Monitor the facility for any safety hazards and report maintenance or safety issues promptly.Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience in social services, community work, or with marginalized populations is preferred. Experience in a shelter, drop-in centre, or similar environment is an asset. Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and build trust with diverse individuals. Ability to handle challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.Training: Training in trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, and harm reduction is preferred (training can be provided). Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration is an asset. Knowledge: Understanding of issues related to homelessness, substance use, and mental health is beneficial.Attributes: Compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental demeanor. Ability to work effectively in a team and maintain a positive attitude in a dynamic environment. Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and perform light physical tasks for extended periods. Ability to assist with setting up seating areas and moving supplies as needed. Additional Information

This position requires flexibility, as duties and responsibilities may change based on the needs of the Drop-In Centre. Support Staff are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct and maintain confidentiality of all guests.
