Detailed Overview Performs skilled electrical work at the journeyman level in installing, constructing, altering, repairing, maintaining and servicing electrical equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

Installs and repairs electrical wiring and equipment; alters and repairs circuits; makes connections to equipment and appliances.

Troubleshoot electrical wiring and equipment, failures and system problems.

Carry out electrical safety inspections on equipment, appliances, motors and controls; ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Review work requests and consult with use departments regarding specifications and other project requirements.

Interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications in order to determine material and equipment required; calculate materials and labour in estimating cost of projects and make recommendations as required.

Prepare for work projects by arranging work schedule with user departments and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.

Recommend detailed improvements to facilities in all areas of responsibility.

Develop, implement and assure performance of preventative maintenance and quality assurance programs in all areas of responsibility.

Requisition materials and supplies and advise on optimal warehouse stock levels.

Maintain routine work activity reports and records.

Interpret drawings, blueprints and installation specifications.

Liaise with, on an as needed basis, external consultants and/or work forces to ensure work proposed/performed meets hospital and/or regulatory standards.

Participate in continuous Quality Improvement activities, to enrich and advance various processes, through the effective use of resources to meet the needs of the customer.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a Journeyman Electrician recognized by the Province of British Columbia. Two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.
