The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 15 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries’ data centre houses more than 500 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes. Your opportunity Under the general direction of the University Archivist, the Records Archivist appraises, acquires, accessions, arranges, describes, preserves and makes available records of archival value with a particular focus on advancing the University’s Bicentennial programming. This work may include supporting Bicentennial-related research inquiries; processing and describing records documenting Bicentennial planning, events, and unit histories; preparing materials for exhibitions, publications, and digital features; and assisting with targeted digitization initiatives related to Bicentennial priorities. The Records Archivist provides reference services to internal and external researchers, contributes to outreach and engagement activities connected to the Bicentennial (such as collaborations with academic units and administrative offices), and supports access to archival materials used in commemorative programs. Your responsibilities will include Implementing plans and process improvements for archival activities Assessing resources and reference material to determine suitability Meeting with potential donors to assess materials and reach agreement on the donation of material to the archives Promoting programs and service offerings to internal and/or external contacts Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate Performing original descriptive cataloguing of resources and/or archival materials Keeping well-informed on applicable copyright, access and privacy laws Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials Essential Qualifications Master's Degree in Archival Studies, Library or Information, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience Minimum of six to seven years experience working in a library/archives environment Excellent knowledge of archival standards and best practices Experience working with current and non-current archival and special collections Excellent written and verbal communication skills Detail-oriented; works with attention to accuracy Proven initiative, flexibility and ability to learn recent technologies and organizational systems Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, anti-racism, equity and accessibility Demonstrated experience preserving special media in both analog and digital format To be successful in this role you will be Accountable Communicator Cooperative Diligent Intuitive Organized Note: This is a Term position until May 2027 Closing Date: 06/01/2026, 11:59PM ET Employee Group: USW Appointment Type: Budget - Term Schedule: Full-Time Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 14 -- $91,677. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $117,242.
