Job Overview Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Union: Non-Union Number of Vacancies: 1 Site: Toronto General Hospital Department: Joint Department of Medical Imaging, Research Division Work Model: On-Site Reports to: MRI Supervisor Wage Range: $ to $ per hour Hours: hours per week Shifts: Dedicated 8‑hour shifts across weekdays; extended shifts across days, evenings, nights and weekends; rotating on‑call shifts during stat holidays, or as needed. Position Summary Join Medical Imaging at UHN, one of the largest academic medical imaging departments in Canada. Our cutting‑edge digital technology and dedicated team prioritize patient care and exceptional image quality. The molecular imaging team is comprised of medical radiation technologists, radiopharmacists, radiologists, cardiologists and physicians who work together to provide the best patient care. As the first department in Ontario to use Radium‑223 to treat prostate cancer, a preceptorship program was developed for other Ontario hospitals to implement Radium treatment programs. The PET imaging department performs the highest number of PET scans in Ontario and UHN is one of three sites in southern Ontario to perform PET Rubidium myocardical scans. Duties Perform nuclear medicine procedures and quality assurance for PET as outlined in the protocol/procedure manuals to aid in patient diagnosis, intervention or treatment. Ensure MRI Safety Standards of Practice are followed at all times. Operate, troubleshoot and ensure safe functioning of medical imaging and ancillary equipment; perform in an effective and efficient manner. Prepare written and electronic reports required to properly document all procedures and test results. Attend PET‑MR & research meetings as required. Assume the role and responsibility as the Radiation Safety Designate; respond to radiation incidents and assist with minor or major spills in the area. Attend quarterly RNRSC meeting. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications and data processing. Responsible for teaching, training, educational research, safety and quality improvement programmes/activities. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of and utilize the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to review, manipulate and archive digital images. Perform other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate optimal patient care. Understand and follow hospital and departmental research policies and procedures to improve technical quality. Qualifications Certification in Nuclear Medicine from a recognized academic institution. Current registration with the CMRITO, including annual continuing education requirements. Completion of a BCLS program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification, with ongoing maintenance. Completion of the clinical component of an accredited medical imaging academic program or equivalent education as assessed by CAMRT and CMRITO. Minimum of three years of recent clinical experience in Nuclear Medicine. Competence in operating PET diagnostic equipment (asset). Independent decision‑making abilities. Ability to work accurately and efficiently under stressful conditions. Excellent problem‑solving and recognition skills. Practical time‑management skills, with the ability to organize work and set priorities. Proficiency in computer skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attendance and availability for evenings and occasional weekends. Sensitivity towards patients in challenging situations. Strong inter‑professional and team-oriented approach to practice. Good judgement to ensure work is performed in the best interest and safety of patients and the team.
