Job Description The Quality Control Inspector will report directly to the Operations Manager. This position is responsible for completing produce inspections, providing inspection details to the sales team, and supporting the ripening team. Because produce is highly perishable, the role is performed in a fast‑paced setting. The inspector verifies the quality and condition of produce items to determine if products meet CFIA/USDA standards and helps assure the quality and freshness of inbound and outbound shipments to retail and food service customers. The primary work location is the 302 Dwight Avenue facility, with occasional travel to the Ontario Food Terminal. The schedule is 40 hours per week; the ideal candidate is flexible and can accommodate occasional evenings and weekends. Availability is required for early morning start times (as early as 3:00 AM) with shifts that may extend into the early afternoon. Key Responsibilities - Maintain and enforce Gambles’ quality specifications. - Perform and report quality assessments during live inbound receiving. - Follow up on any items already received and put away, but that are not quality‑controlled. - Conduct outbound quality control checks for select customers. - Fulfill quality reporting requests (photos, weight, size, average counts, etc.). - Review daily cooler checklist to identify and report sub‑par product for disposition. - Manage rejection, return, assessment, reporting, and handling (transfers, RTS coordination). - Conduct 3rd Party Inspections. - Coordinate CFIA inspections as required. - Provide support and coverage as needed to the ripening team. Candidate Requirements Qualifications and Personal Attributes: - Post‑secondary education in food science, natural science and/or agriculture. - Knowledge, prior experience and familiarity of CFIA grading standards and produce specifications is an asset. - Strong written and verbal English communication skills. - Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a warehouse environment. - Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word. - Familiarity with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). - Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. - Strong organizational and time‑management skills. - Self‑starter who identifies priorities and takes initiative. - Flexible and adaptable to an ever‑changing environment. - Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. - Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines. The following would be considered welcomed assets: - Knowledge of HACCP. - Knowledge of SQF.
