Position Summary: We are looking for a qualified and experienced Day Care Supervisor to support the daily operation of our child care centre and help lead a safe, caring, and developmentally appropriate program. The Day Care Supervisor will support program quality, guide classroom staff, maintain licensing and health and safety standards, communicate with families, and help ensure the centre follows school policies and Ontario child care requirements. Key Responsibilities - Support the daily operation of the child care centre. - Help establish and maintain a safe, warm, caring, and high-quality learning environment. - Plan, direct, and support age-appropriate programs for young children. - Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. - Demonstrate knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? and apply it to daily program planning. - Ensure the centre follows the Child Care and Early Years Act, Ontario Regulation 137/15, and school policies. - Supervise, guide, and support RECEs, Teacher Assistants, students, and volunteers. - Assist with staff scheduling, classroom coverage, ratio checks, and daily operational needs. - Carry out regular attendance checks throughout the day. - Ensure staff are aware of the number of children in each group and each child’s whereabouts at all times. - Support children with allergies, medical plans, individual needs, and daily routines. - Maintain accurate records, including attendance, accident reports, daily logs, staff records, and licensing documents. - Communicate professionally with parents, families, staff, and management. - Support positive behaviour guidance and ensure staff use respectful and supportive strategies with children. - Follow and support health and safety policies, emergency procedures, illness procedures, anaphylaxis procedures, and accident reporting. - Support staff training, mentoring, and performance feedback. - Work closely with the Director/Licensee to support licensing inspections, Public Health requirements, fire safety, and program quality. - Assist with parent tours, enrollment, classroom transitions, and family communication when needed. - Participate in staff meetings, training, and qualified learning. - Perform the duties of the Director/Supervisor designate when required. Qualifications Required: - Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. - Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent approved pathway. - Minimum 2 years of experience in licensed child care. - Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading child care staff. - Strong knowledge of child development, licensing requirements, positive guidance, and classroom routines. - Strong knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act and Ontario Regulation 137/15. - Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C, including infant and child CPR. - Clear Vulnerable Sector Check before employment begins. - Health assessment and immunization documentation as required by Public Health. - Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills. - Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. - Ability to work in a fast-paced child care environment and respond calmly to daily challenges. Leadership / Supervisory Requirements: - The candidate should meet Ontario child care supervisor qualification expectations: being an RECE in good standing, having at least two years of licensed child care experience, and being approved by a director; or otherwise being considered capable by a director to plan and direct the program, be in charge of children, and oversee staff. Preferred: - Previous experience as a Day Care Supervisor, Child Care Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, Program Supervisor, Lead Teacher, or Room Lead. - Experience in a private child care or Montessori-inspired environment. - Experience working with toddlers, preschool, or Casa-age children. - Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? and Ontario early years pedagogy. - Experience with licensing inspections, staff files, parent communication, and operational record keeping. - Experience supporting staff training, performance feedback, and classroom quality improvement. - Strong parent communication skills.
