Family and Child Psychosocial Support Specialist (MSW) Organization: Nankind Reports to: Director of Programs and Operations Location: In office 4 days one day remote Type: Full time About Nankind Nankind supports parents with cancer who are raising young children, along with their caregivers and bereaved parents navigating loss. We provide practical tools, compassionate support, and community-based programming designed specifically for families facing the unique emotional, parenting, and relational challenges that cancer brings. At Nankind, we believe no parent should face cancer alone—especially while trying to care for children who still need bedtime stories, school lunches, and reassurance that the world is safe. Position Summary Nankind is seeking a Psychosocial Support Specialist to develop and deliver our support programs for: Parents living with cancer Caregivers supporting a parent with cancer Bereaved parents navigating grief while parenting Children navigating parental cancer or bereavment This role will be responsible for planning, facilitating, and continuously improving evidence-informed psychosocial support offerings, with a strong emphasis on family systems, parenting, grief, and the lived experience of cancer. This is an ideal role for a clinically trained, highly relational social worker who is comfortable holding emotionally complex group spaces and who is passionate about making support more accessible, practical, and human. Key Responsibilities Program Development & Delivery Develop, implement, and facilitate psychosocial support programs for parents with cancer, caregivers, and bereaved parents Facilitate support groups (virtual and/or in-person), workshops, and structured peer support programming Adapt programming based on participant feedback, evolving needs, and best practices Support the creation of program materials, resources, and participant handouts Participant Support Provide short-term psychosocial support and referrals within the scope of Nankind programming Conduct intakes and participant check-ins as needed Maintain a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and inclusive approach Support participants through emotionally intense moments while maintaining appropriate boundaries Clinical Quality & Collaboration Ensure programming aligns with ethical and professional standards of social work Collaborate with Nankind staff, community partners, and healthcare professionals Contribute to program evaluation and impact measurement Maintain accurate documentation, internal reporting, and program notes as required Community & Systems Awareness Maintain an understanding of the psychosocial impact of cancer on parents, children, caregivers, and families Support Nankind’s mission by identifying emerging needs and opportunities for future programming Represent Nankind professionally in partnerships, collaborations, and program-related meetings Required Qualifications Master of Social Work (MSW) Registered Social Worker in good standing Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a medical, hospital, oncology, palliative care, hospice, or community health setting Demonstrated experience facilitating groups and/or delivering psychosocial programs Strong understanding of: The unique needs of parents raising young children Family systems and parenting under stress Grief, bereavement, and anticipatory loss The impact of cancer on relationships, parenting, identity, and family functioning Qualifications Must be a Registered Social Worker, MSW or Child Life Specialist Experience working with oncology/medical populations and/or young families Training in grief counselling, trauma-informed practice, and/or caregiver support Experience designing and evaluating psychosocial support programs Comfort working in a startup or fast-growing nonprofit environment Skills & Attributes Warm, grounded, and emotionally attuned presence Excellent facilitation and group leadership skills Strong clinical judgment and ability to maintain boundaries Able to hold complex and sensitive conversations with compassion and clarity Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple programs and timelines Solid written communication and documentation skills Values-driven and aligned with Nankind’s mission and approach Why This Role Matters This position supports families during one of the hardest seasons of their lives.
