Human Resources Business Partner

Position summary:

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a strategic partner to clinical and non-clinical leaders, providing expert guidance across the full spectrum of human resources. This role serves as the Hospital's employee and labour relations subject matter expert, leading the management of grievances, investigations, and collective bargaining activities within a unionized healthcare environment.

The HRBP plays a key role in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of core HR initiatives, including attendance support, performance management, and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and legislative requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as a strategic advisor to leaders in areas of employee and labour relations, performance management, conflict resolution, and workplace issues, while building strong relationships with staff, management, and union partners.
  • Serve as the organization's labour relations lead, managing collective agreement administration including grievances, arbitrations, investigations, discipline, and interpretation, and leading collective bargaining preparation and strategy.
  • Lead and conduct workplace investigations (e.g., harassment, discrimination, workplace violence) and provide guidance on accommodation and return-to-work in collaboration with Occupational Health.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve key HR programs, including Attendance Support and Performance Management, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and legislative requirements.
  • Keep abreast and ensure compliance with current employment legislations, including Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and any other relevant legislation, while contributing to the development of policies, procedures, and a consistent approach to HR service delivery.
  • Lead training and education sessions for the Hospital as required
  • Support talent processes and organizational effectiveness through recruitment, HR metrics and reporting, HRIS data integrity, and participation in compensation analysis and market reviews.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business, Hospital Administration or related discipline required.
  • CHRP designation is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a generalist role advising on all aspects of Human Resources matters, in a healthcare environment preferred
  • Labour relations experience in a unionized environment is required
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates complex decision-making ability and creative problem solving / critical thinking skills
  • Experience in statistical and report analysis is an asset
