The full Plan can be viewed on ttc.ca. Career Opportunity We’re hiring an Equipment Engineer, Mechanical, to join our Vehicle Programs Team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing engineering support and guidance to relevant TTC staff in investigating and diagnosing engineering problems on equipment and systems for revenue and non-revenue vehicles operated by the TTC. What You Will Do Reporting to the Manager, LRV Engineering, you will perform functions associated with the vehicle design, development, validation, commissioning, and approval of components and equipment for revenue and non-revenue rail vehicles; takes professional responsibility for engineering work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). This involves the following - Provide original design, reverse engineering and specification work for vehicle system/component improvement projects and tooling. - Provide engineering design expertise that ensures acceptable standards of performance, safety, reliability and maintainability of the TTC rail vehicle fleet (Streetcar & Subway) and their related subsystems and components. - Investigate, evaluate, test new, existing or proposed systems, components and/or construction methods. - Troubleshoot problems, malfunctions/faults; recommend alternate design, procedures, equipment, materials and related matters. - Perform “failure analysis” studies using engineering principles to determine the cause of failure and provides engineered solutions. - Prepare and complete technical specifications, reports and detailed design drawings relating to mechanical and electrical components of TTC’s rail vehicle fleet (Streetcar & Subway) and associated equipment. - Compile cost and quantity estimates for specific projects, programs and budget purposes. - Provide design review expertise on submissions received at various stages of design and provide comments concerning compliance with TTC requirements. - Apply project engineering principles which may involve coordinating the efforts of a team of technical assistants, engineering technologists and engineers within the department and/or operating departments and outside resources; resolve engineering issues to ensure compliance with TTC design standards and specifications. What Skills Do You Bring - Use office technology, software and applications - Plan and organize activities / projects to meet section and organizational goals - Identify and minimize risk of Health and Safety issues - Demonstrate specialized expertise and knowledge in the assigned field - Apply analytical skills - Communicate in a variety of mediums What Qualifications Do You Bring - Completion of a university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent; engineering experience working with transit vehicles preferred. - Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (PEO) is mandatory. - Sound knowledge of the mechanical engineering discipline related to transit vehicle engineering, with specific knowledge in the areas of drafting, tolerances, dimensioning, hydraulics, pneumatics, metallurgy, welding, stress analysis, and mechanical analysis. - Practical understanding of electrical/electronic technology. - Proficiency with Solidworks (additional skills with Draftsight is an asset). - Practical experience in creating engineering drawings with sound knowledge in application of GD&T; per ASME Y14.5. - Knowledgeable of project management concepts and practices and vehicle testing procedures and programs. - Sound judgement supported by demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and design skills with respect to urban transit vehicles and related mechanical components. - Strong interpersonal, verbal communication and report-writing skills. - Ability to work in a team environment and co-ordinate efforts of others to accomplish objectives. - Requires a valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' Driver’s License and may be required to use personal vehicle to attend off-site work locations.
