Broadcast & Live Operations Toronto Position The work runs on a shift basis, including evenings and weekends, dictated by the schedule of global live sport. The live support will be operated onsite (in the client's operations center) in Toronto. Position This role sits within Deltatre's TechOps team, supporting the operations and configuration of the online video players and OTT video solutions delivered to high-profile clients in sport and broadcast. The team provides operational support during live sporting events — football, golf, tennis, and similar — across encoding, hosting, and player infrastructure. You will be responsible for keeping critical services running during live broadcast windows, monitoring across hosting and encoding pipelines, and contributing to the protocols and runbooks that make the operation repeatable. Responsibilities - Provide live operational support to key projects, monitoring software and hardware performance throughout broadcast windows - Support the video encoding technologies used by the company - Monitor hosting platforms before, during, and after operational events - Operate and monitor live video encoding and packaging for live sporting events - Create and follow operational job sheets and checklists, contributing to their improvement over time - Set up and maintain monitoring across the systems supported - Work with on-premises and cloud hosting platforms (Azure, AWS) to monitor and configure applications - Use Microsoft Azure to deploy and support hosting services - Support Windows Server, Active Directory, and DNS in the relevant environments Requirements You can stay focused and follow defined protocols during live events, even when several issues are in play at once. You are comfortable making decisions during live operations with the guidance available, and you know when to escalate. Required - 1+ years' experience in live streaming or broadcast environments - Hands-on experience with live online video streaming, 24/7 channel monitoring, and system and alert monitoring - Experience working with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or Alibaba) - Demonstrated familiarity with broadcast systems, IP formats, and streaming protocols - Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialist audiences - Available for evening and weekend shifts as required by global live sport schedules - Ability to produce reliable, transparent process documentation Valued - PowerShell or command-line scripting experience - Previous experience in an external client-facing technical role - Web administration experience with IIS - Demonstrated familiarity with the protocols and systems used in this role, however acquired (degree-educated background welcome but not required) - Genuine interest in sport — useful for context on the events being supported Who Thrives Here Live event support is a discipline. The systems are demanding, the timing is fixed, and the difference between a smooth broadcast and a memorable failure can come down to whether someone caught a metric drift fifteen minutes before kickoff. The people who do this well are calm without being passive, curious about the systems they support, and disciplined about documentation. A successful TechOps engineer at Deltatre brings interest in the platforms (not just willingness to monitor them), comfort working through ambiguous symptoms in real time, and the discipline to leave the runbook better than they found it. Sport context helps but is not a substitute for technical depth.
