The Opportunity The Senior Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer position is open on the Western Canada Dam Engineering team based in Vancouver or Nanaimo, BC.

Your Role

Perform dam inspections and annual operation inspections.

Develop and oversee geotechnical evaluations, monitoring and testing programs, and analysis of results.

Oversee reporting, including required DSRs, DSIs, assessment and design reports.

Support development of detailed design plans and tender documents.

Support construction-management activities, including full‑time inspections.

Manage clients, projects, deliverables, proposal writing, cost estimating, and scheduling.

Manage progress and develop remedial designs for earth and rock‑fill embankment dams and other water‑impounding structures.

Provide dam safety training and mentorship to junior staff and clients.

Report and present findings to clients and regulators.

Travel and site work throughout Western Canada; frequency and duration depend on client needs.

Lead report preparation; direct completion of technical documents.

Participate in business‑development activities including proposals and conferences.

Promote a safety‑first attitude, adhere to health and safety policies, and raise safety issues through the appropriate channels.

Execute projects in compliance with the Canada Quality Management System, reconcile financials, and archive files.

Maintain current knowledge of dam‑safety and project‑management practices.

Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.

Pursue continuous professional development and maintain discipline knowledge.

Work safely, reporting all health and safety incidents and concerns.

Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering; Master’s preferred.

15+ years of demonstrable dam‑safety experience, including CDA guidance, BC dam‑safety documents, HSRC Code, dam‑safety evaluations, design, and construction.

Registered P.Eng. in British Columbia and/or Alberta or other provinces.

Proficiency with design software such as GeoStudio (SLOPE/W), Rocscience, AllPile, HEC‑RAS, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.

Ability to work independently with senior‑staff review.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience writing technical reports and proposals.

Strong organizational skills with project‑management capabilities.

Confidence in managing professional relationships and client liaison.
