Junior or Intermediate Designer, Mechanical/Piping Vancouver, BC, Canada
Type of position: Regular
Your role on our team Your role as a Mechanical/Piping Designer will involve preparing 3D models, drawings and other technical documents in the mining and hydropower industries. You will deliver high-quality service, maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients, and contribute to projects within the mechanical and piping engineering discipline across British Columbia, nationally and internationally as required. You will join our growing Vancouver office and work with a fun, collaborative team to deliver fast‑paced projects.
Responsibilities
Perform mechanical and piping 3D modelling to generate deliverables such as isometric drawings, general arrangements, plot plans and details as part of piping mandates
Work with cutting‑edge 3D scanning technology and point clouds
Collaborate with lead designers and engineers
Initiate the development of all required discipline deliverables for assigned tasks
Develop project‑specific criteria or standards
Collaborate with pipe‑stress engineers on piping design
Receive and distribute design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and procedures
Update PFDs and P&ID master documents
When assigned to site, support construction activities by interpreting drawings and specifications, design modifications, scheduling, and system checkout and testing
Provide support when performing cross‑discipline reviews of drawings and 3D models
Help conduct internal 3D model reviews
Communicate with vendors and ensure vendor data is used efficiently in designs
Actively participate in seeking innovative solutions
Perform other technical functions to help deliver projects
Develop your career by working with emerging technologies in mechanical and piping design

Qualifications / Job Requirements
Up to 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical/piping and design drafting in the mining or hydropower sectors
Diploma in mechanical engineering technology (technologist or technician) or equivalent
Knowledge of mechanical/piping codes, building codes and standards
Knowledge of 3D CAD tools such as Smart 3D, SolidWorks, CADWorx and AutoCAD
Initiative to identify tasks that need completion and take responsibility for seeing them through to the final stage
Ability to work in a multidiscipline project team with a priority on collaboration
Bilingual (English and French) is not necessary but would be advantageous for this position
Asset: knowledge of 3D point clouds
