Senior Civil Design Engineer (Vancouver)

Responsibilities - Apply cost‑competitive execution techniques to develop the most cost‑effective total project solution. - Develop and review specifications, including design criteria. - Participate in activities related to equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting. - Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve moderate to complex engineering problems. - Demonstrate basic understanding of structural behavior and design principles. - Review vendor equipment documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies. - Analyze complex problems and make independent recommendations in line with organizational and project objectives. - Apply strong technical skills in structural engineering, including large structural steel and concrete, heavy foundations, seismic engineering, and energetic analysis. - Perform hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures. - Analyze complex structures for wind and seismic loading. - Conduct dynamic analysis and design of structures supporting vibrating equipment. - Create and analyze computer models of structures. - Oversee procurement and construction aspects of engineering. - Review and manage vendor, intergroup, and squad drawings. - Check engineering and fabricator drawings. - Manage and lead a small project. Qualifications - Accredited four‑year degree or global equivalent in engineering and at least ten years of work‑related experience. - Professional certification or registration required for applicable field. - Minimum four years of experience in mining projects. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences. - Technical knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines. - Detail‑oriented and able to manage time effectively. - Professional registration and membership in technical societies preferred. - Advanced knowledge of discipline codes, standards, and commercial availability of materials. - Ability to estimate effort hours and forecast staffing. - Experience managing large projects, including set‑up, schedule development, progress reporting, and close‑out. - Intermediate proficiency with office software (word processing, e‑mail, spreadsheets, presentations). Preferred Qualifications - Experience with structural steel and concrete design, seismic analysis, and dynamic analysis of structures. - Proficiency with computer modeling and analysis tools. - Knowledge of procurement and construction project management.
