Overview
The Embedded System Engineer will develop firmware for Gas Chromatography instrumentation, Auto‑Samplers, sample preparation devices, and mass spectrometers—including PerkinElmer Clarus, GC2400, HS2400, MS2400, TurboMatrix, and potentially NexION and QSight instruments. The role involves close collaboration with software, electrical, and mechanical teams.Responsibilities
Design, develop, or update gas chromatography firmware, control systems, and programmable logic devices. Translate requirements into specifications and architect embedded system solutions. Contribute to the conceptualization, design, and development of new Chromatography and Mass Spec products. Collaborate with solution architects and developers for solution design.Identify subsystems and interfaces, ensuring documented architecture is followed. Mitigate technical risks and keep up to date on industry trends. Analyze emerging embedded systems technologies and translate implications into effective technical vision and strategy. Maintain a team-focused mindset, prioritizing team objectives.Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering (Computer Engineering considered if hardware experience). Strong C/C++ programming skills. Experience with FreeRTOS and Linux application development and kernel image creation. Understanding of real‑time software development, multithreading concepts, and control systems.Ability to read and create electrical schematics and understand digital electronic circuit design. Proficiency with Eclipse-based embedded development. Familiarity with communication protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, USB, Wi‑Fi, SPI, RS‑485, CAN, and I2C. Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.Experience with system architecture design and cross‑functional team collaboration. 3–5 years of relevant experience. Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Customer‑focused, value‑driven mindset. Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks with varying priorities.Asset: AMD/Xilinx Vivado environment, FPGA VHDL development, Zynq/PetaLinux development, analog circuit design, web‑based development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Compensation
The annual compensation range is $103,500 to $110,000 CAD, with final base pay determined by internal equity, location, and qualifications.
