Community Recreation Planner (Victoria)

Shekinah Homes Society is looking for a Community Recreation Planner for the summer! We operate three group homes that support adults with disabilities. We have built an inclusive community that strives to create positive social change, allowing each of our residents (called Core Members) to have an accessible world where they have autonomy over their lives. This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. Applicants must fit the eligibility criteria set out by Canada Summer Jobs (information available here: Details: This is a seasonal role lasting a minimum of nine weeks. Applicants may be considered for a long-term casual position after the nine weeks. Please note that no experience is required for this position as it is intended for obtaining valuable work experience. Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 30-40 hours per week. Shifts will be wide-ranging and include morning, daytime, and evening shifts. We have two planned start dates for this role: - May 25th - July 6th Job Duties and Description: Community Recreation Planners are responsible for providing support to adults with disabilities, with a specific focus on creating and maintaining recreation schedules. While Community Recreation Planners will be expected to support adults with disabilities in all aspects of daily living, their main job is to ensure that Core Members have opportunities to engage in art, games, physical activity, and other recreational activities. Job duties include, but are not limited to: - Supporting Core Members with all aspects of daily living, including helping with personal care and hygiene. - Assisting Core Members with accomplishing or working on personal goals through planned activities and outings. - Work with Core Members to improve their mobility by implementing individualized exercise routine. - Recording information in electronic medical software. - Plan community events that highlight diversity and other cultures for our Core Members. - Plan, gather resources for, and implement activities that encourage our Core Members’ physical, social, and emotional well-being.
