Structural Engineer in Training (Victoria)

GC Engineering is seeking a motivated and career-driven Structural EIT / Junior Structural Engineer (Intermediate Engineers welcome too) to join our growing team in Victoria, BC. This position is ideal for an individual looking to gain practical experience in both structural design and construction field review work across a variety of residential, commercial, and construction engineering projects. The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to Victoria, British Columbia, and should have some prior experience in construction engineering; Experience with field reviews related to falsework and shoring . This role provides excellent exposure to structural engineering design, construction practices, field inspections, and coordination with contractors and clients. Key Responsibilities - Perform field reviews and site inspections related to: -Falsework and shoring systems -Steel connections -Guardrails and handrails -Residential renovations and structural modifications -General structural construction work - Assist in structural analysis and design for: -Wood-frame residential buildings -Steel connection details -Concrete foundations and structural elements -Cold formed steel design/framing - Prepare structural drawings, sketches, calculations, and technical reports - Review shop drawings and construction submittals - Coordinate with contractors, architects, and project stakeholders - Support senior engineers with project delivery and construction administration - Ensure designs and field reviews comply with applicable Canadian codes and engineering standards - Participate in site visits throughout various stages of construction Qualifications & Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering - Registered or eligible for registration as an EIT in British Columbia - Some experience in construction engineering is required - Some experience with field reviews for falsework and shoring - Basic understanding of: -Wood-frame structural design -Steel connection design -Concrete foundation design -Structural load paths and detailing - Familiarity with Canadian structural design standards including: -CSA A23.3 (Concrete) -CSA O86 (Wood) -CSA S16 (Steel) - NBCC (National Building Code of Canada) - Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and construction documents - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Willingness to learn, grow, and take initiative in a fast-paced engineering environment - Experience with structural design and drafting software such as RISA 3D or similar software is considered an asset, but not mandatory - Valid driver’s license and willingness to attend field reviews and site visits as required - References a plus, but confidentiality will be respected Preferred Attributes - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills - Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team - Interest in both practical field work and structural design - Positive attitude and eagerness to develop professionally under mentorship from senior engineers What We Offer - Prospect to work on diverse and challenging structural engineering projects - Hands-on experience in both design and field review work - Supportive team environment with mentorship and professional development opportunities - Exposure to residential, commercial, and construction engineering projects - Career growth opportunities within a growing engineering firm If you are passionate about structural engineering and are looking to build a strong foundation in both design and construction field work, we encourage you to apply.
