The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking co-op students/interns to support projects & initiatives being implemented as part of our Data & Analytics strategy for the 2026 fall work term (September to December or April). WHAT ITS LIKE WORKING IN THE DATA & ANALYTICS TEAM Modern tools, pushing boundaries: We run Databricks, Power BI, and enterprise Claude (already connected to our data platform via MCP) and are actively replacing traditional processes with agentic workflows using Databricks Genie, Claude Skills, and Claude Code High-impact work: 75% of the organization uses our analytics; we work with smart ambitious business users and highly analytical people on high-ROI use cases Great culture: Rapid-paced with world-class expectations, but supportive and genuinely fun WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Supporting the implementation of Data & Analytics projects and initiatives Creating reports and dashboards using Power BI and SQL Creating re-usable curated datasets using SQL or Python Work with Data & Analytics team to drive data literacy across BCI Support the building and adoption of AI driven solutions THE IDEAL STUDENT Has a keen interest in data & technology and is a self-starter Has working knowledge of major AI tools like Perplexity, Claude or Copilot Demonstrates they are a team player, but can also work independently Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description Comes up with creative ideas to improve the business reporting process REQUIRED SKILLS Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail Has an interest in data, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn Ability to use Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook Familiarity using Microsoft 365 tools such as One Drive, Share Point Online, and MS Teams would be an asset Familiarity with reporting tools such as Power BI Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude or Copilot Ability to read and write basic code scripts in SQL Ability to implement and debug basic Python scripts WHAT WE OFFER Excellent career development and training by contributing to a strategic program with high visibility Work with a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment The development of real-world skills at one of the largest institutional investors in Canada Exposure to some of the most talented, approachable, and inspiring people in the industry The ability to opt-in for access to Dialogue, a user-friendly app that offers virtual primary care, employee and family services, and mental health supports Time to connect with co-op students & interns at BCI build your network and shared learning Two paid days per year for volunteering Competitive pay: $2,155.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,330.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree and $2,155.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate) Travel: if coming to Victoria or Vancouver for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location THE DETAILS Work term: Fall 2026 (September to December) or Fall 2026 & Winter 2027 (September April) Department: Technology Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC or 666 Burrard Street, Vancouver BC Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island or experiencing the beauty of lower mainland All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria or Vancouver office with the option to work one day per week from home.
